Tottenham will begin preparations for the new season by appointing Thomas Frank (51) as the new head coach. Christian Eriksen (33), who was coached by him and is a 'close friend of Son Heung-min', noted that Tottenham has brought in a good figure.
On the 13th (Korean time), Tottenham announced through the club's official channel that "we have signed a three-year contract with Coach Frank until June 2028." Justin Cochrane, the head coach, Chris Haslam, a coach, analyst Joe Newton, and coach Andreas Georgson, who had worked together at Brentford until last season, will also join the Tottenham coaching staff.
The appointment of Coach Frank was announced just a week after the dismissal of Coach Postecoglou.
Coach Postecoglou led Tottenham to a major trophy, the Europa League title, in the 2024-2025 season, the first in 17 years. However, the league performance was poor. The club recorded the highest number of losses in its history with 22 in the Premier League, finishing in 17th place. The Tottenham hierarchy ultimately chose to replace the coach.
Coach Frank began his coaching career in 2008 with the Denmark youth national team. He commanded the Brøndby team in 2013 and later became the head coach at Brentford in 2016. Promoted to head coach in 2018, he led Brentford for about seven years. He achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season, which is considered a hallmark achievement.
During Frank's tenure, Brentford showed competitiveness in the Premier League. They finished 13th in 2022, 9th in 2023, 16th in 2024, and concluded last season in 10th place. Frank received analysis for managing the team stably with various tactics and customized strategies. He is also highly regarded for his youth development and talent discovery abilities.
Coach Frank is known to be close to Tottenham's technical director, Johan Lange. The two will aim for success in their first season through close collaboration.
While there has been criticism regarding the appointment of Tottenham's new head coach, there is also a considerable amount of positive response. Expectations are growing for Coach Frank, who showed consistent results at Brentford.
Among those supporting him is Eriksen. Eriksen previously excelled as a key midfielder for Tottenham during Coach Pochettino's era. After suffering cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, he returned to the field through Brentford, where he was coached by Frank.
In an interview with Danish media 'Ekstra Bladet', Eriksen said, "Coach Frank is exactly the right person for Tottenham. His personality, playing style, and attitude all align. Tottenham is at a point where they need to build anew. Frank is the coach who can lead this."
