KIA Tigers infielder Yun Do-hyun has once again been caught in the nightmare of injury.

KIA announced on the 12th, ahead of the game against Samsung in Gwangju, "Yun Do-hyun was substituted after suffering a bruise on his right index finger during defense the previous day and underwent a CT scan at the club-designated hospital, Seonhan Hospital. The examination revealed a fracture of the distal phalanx on the right index finger, and surgery is not required, with an estimated rehabilitation period of about four weeks."

Yun Do-hyun was replaced immediately after making an error by failing to catch a strong hit from Diaz with no outs and a runner on second base in the 7th inning of the game against Samsung the previous day. The KIA bench promptly substituted Hong Jong-pyo for defensive reinforcement. Yun Do-hyun complained of finger pain, and the examination results showed the worst outcome. He was hit by the ball while attempting to catch it.

Yun Do-hyun has recorded a batting average of .279, 4 home runs, 9 RBIs, 11 runs, 1 stolen base, and an OPS of .829 this year. He was on the opening roster but was demoted to the second team after just 5 days to resolve a throwing issue. After playing in the second team, he faced a hiatus after being hit in the elbow by a pitch. He resolved his throwing issue and returned on May 22, hitting 4 home runs and driving in 9 RBIs, bolstering the lineup. He played the role of a leadoff hitter and played as a second baseman.

Yun Do-hyun has been suffering from injuries every year. In 2022, during his rookie year in a spring training game, he sustained an injury to the metacarpal bone of his right hand while attempting to catch a ball, and he also dealt with a hamstring injury, missing a year. The following year, he sustained two hamstring injuries. In the 2024 season, he suffered a side injury at the end of spring camp and later a fracture of the left metacarpal bone during a Futures game.

Manager Lee Beom-ho said, "I don't know what to say. It's hard to break easily, yet he keeps injuring his hand. They say it's a fracture. I replaced him for a double play, but he said his finger hurts. It seems he was hit by Diaz's ball. He injures his hand once a year. He must feel frustrated. It's unfortunate. Although he will heal again, I worry that he will become discouraged."

KIA is already facing long-term absences with Na Sung-bum and Kim Sun-bin due to calf muscle injuries. Moreover, key player Kim Do-young is also out due to repeated left and right hamstring injuries. With Yun Do-hyun's injury after being called up from the second team, the lineup is expected to weaken further. Manager Lee stated, "(With injuries coming suddenly) my head is complicated. We have to work with the players we have. I will rotate Park Min and Kim Gyu-seong as starters. I will assess the players' condition on the day and decide who is suitable to play."

KIA announced on this day that Yun Do-hyun and Hong Jong-pyo were removed from the first team. Instead, infielder Park Min and rookie outfielder Park Jae-hyun were called up. Manager Lee said, "I called up Park Jae-hyun for a run. I will utilize him well in defense and on the base paths." KIA's starting lineup included Lee Chang-jin (left fielder), Park Chan-ho (shortstop), Wisdom (third baseman), Choi Hyung-woo (designated hitter), Oh Sun-woo (right fielder), Hwang Dae-in (first baseman), Han Joon-soo (catcher), Kim Gyu-seong (second baseman), and Kim Ho-ryeong (center fielder).
