Tottenham is accelerating its split with Son Heung-min (33). This is because the club is preparing to break its record to sign a winger from Ghana.

According to British 'TalkSport,' on the 11th (Korea time), Antoine Semenyo (25, Bournemouth) met with Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy regarding the possibility of a transfer this summer.

Semenyo is a player similar to Son Heung-min. He uses both feet and primarily plays as a left winger, but he can also play as a right winger or midfield player. He is praised for his excellent ability to penetrate using speed and for effectively utilizing his teammates with selfless play.

The problem is the expensive transfer fee. Semenyo is under contract until the summer of 2029, so Bournemouth is holding firm to a transfer fee of £70 million (approximately 129.8 billion won). This amount exceeds the club's highest transfer fee of £65 million paid for Dominic Solanke last year.

Bournemouth sold Dean Huysent (20) to Real Madrid. The transfer fee is reaching £50 million (approximately 92.7 billion won). Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez (22) is also likely to don a Liverpool jersey. In a situation without financial pressure, there is no reason for Semenyo to be sold cheaply.

Semenyo recorded 11 goals and 6 assists in 37 Premier League matches during the 2024-2025 season. While it may be difficult to immediately replace Son Heung-min, Tottenham believes it is possible in the long term.

Son Heung-min is preparing for his final contract season with Tottenham, along with winning the UEFA Europa League. This represents the last opportunity for Tottenham's upper management to monetize Son Heung-min. In fact, multiple clubs, including those from Saudi Arabia, have shown interest in Son Heung-min.

Son Heung-min did not dismiss the possibility of parting ways with Tottenham after the match against Kuwait in the 10th round of Group B, the final Asian qualification round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which they won 4-0 on the 10th.

When asked about his future for next season, Son said, "There is still a year left on my contract," adding, "I think it's better to wait rather than say anything here. Many people, journalists, football fans, and I am also quite curious."

He continued, "Rather than thinking about the future, I think it's better to observe. No matter where I am or in what position, it remains unchanged that I am a player who has always done my best and put in effort," and emphasized, "I will always do my best and prepare well, no matter where I am."

Many clubs are targeting Semenyo besides Tottenham. Manchester United is also showing interest in Semenyo. Although they are currently focusing on Bryan Mbeumo (26, Brentford), they could easily turn their attention to Semenyo if that doesn't go well.

Tottenham has begun restructuring its squad ahead of a return to the Champions League for the 2025-2026 season. They have even dismissed manager Ange Postecoglou, who brought the club its first trophy in 17 years with the UEFA Europa League victory.

It seems Tottenham has appointed Thomas Frank, the Brentford manager, as Postecoglou's successor. The key will be how Frank converses with Son Heung-min.

However, the acquisition of Semenyo, which could break the club record, is catching attention as it signifies Tottenham's desire to part ways with Son Heung-min rather than merely a reinforcement.
