The mayor of Melbourne, Australia, has recently been reported to have publicly criticized Tottenham for dismissing coach Ange Postecoglou (60).

On the 11th (Korea time), Nicholas Rees (51), the mayor of Melbourne, stated through his social media that he urges Tottenham to reconsider their decision to dismiss Postecoglou in representation of Melbourne citizens and Premier League fans worldwide. He also noted, "I hope Tottenham is not known as a team allergic to trophies."

Postecoglou was officially dismissed from Tottenham on the 7th. He brought Tottenham its first trophy in 17 years with the UEFA Europa League victory for the 2024-2025 season. However, he could not escape criticism for the team's poor performance, finishing 17th in the league.

Mayor Rees emphasized, "Postecoglou is a coach who successfully led South Melbourne FC and the Australian national team" and added, "He is still someone who can lead the team to greatness." He further asserted, "If given the opportunity, we can expect to see more trophies, and Postecoglou should lead the squad in next year's Premier League."

Postecoglou spent most of his playing career at South Melbourne. Afterward, he managed South Melbourne and Melbourne Victory, and he went on to lead Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan), Celtic (Scotland), and Tottenham.

Mayor Rees's desperate plea is likely to fall on deaf ears. Local British media report that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is already set to appoint Thomas Frank (52), the manager of Brentford, as Postecoglou's successor.

Tottenham is reported to have paid a compensation fee of about £10 million (around 18.5 billion won) to bring in manager Frank, and an official announcement is expected soon.
