SSG Landers pitcher Park Si-hu (24) has become a co-leader in wins on the team with a surprising performance.
On the 11th, Park came on as a relief pitcher in a game against the LG Twins held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, pitching 1⅔ innings without allowing a hit, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout, while recording a scoreless outing.
Park Si-hu entered the game as the second pitcher following starting pitcher Kim Gun-woo in the bottom of the 4th inning when the score was 4-2 with 1 out and a runner on first. He caught the speedy runner Park Hae-min with a pickoff attempt against Shin Min-jae at the plate. Although Park Hae-min, who was caught in the pickoff, attempted to run to second base, he was tagged out. The play was recorded as a failed steal. After 2 outs, he ended the inning by getting Shin Min-jae to ground out to the shortstop.
SSG added a point in the top of the 5th to extend the lead to 5-2. Park Si-hu continued to pitch scorelessly against the LG lineup in the 5th. He retired lead-off batter Kim Hyun-soo with a flyout to center field, and he got Austin to ground out to the shortstop. He issued a walk to Moon Bo-gyeong, but ended the inning by striking out Park Dong-won with a swinging strike.
SSG's winning combination of Kim Min, Lee Ro-un, Noh Kyung-eun, and Jo Byeong-hyeon pitched one inning each starting from the 6th inning, securing a 6-2 victory. Park Si-hu recorded a relief win, marking his 4th win of the season.
Park Si-hu was drafted by SK in the 10th round, 100th pick of the 2020 rookie draft. He was the last player selected in the draft.
After joining the team, he only played in the second team in 2020-2021. He made his first-team debut in 2022, recording 2 games with an inning pitched and 2 earned runs (an earned run average of 18.00). Last year, he appeared in 11 games (14⅔ innings) and recorded an earned run average of 6.75.
His two-seam fastball has improved, thanks to training at the finishing camp last year, and he is serving in a tough role in the bullpen this season as a long reliever and a key part of the bullpen.
Although he was included in the opening roster, he was sent down to the second team after failing to pitch in any game for 4 days. Park Si-hu, called up in mid-April, has recorded 20 games with 4 wins, no losses, 2 holds, and an earned run average of 2.49. His 4 wins tie him with starting pitchers Kim Gwang-hyun, Anderson, and White for the co-lead in wins at SSG.
On May 2, Park Si-hu made his debut hold after entering the game with a 1-run lead against LG. He came on in the 6th inning leading 2-1 and retired the LG left-handed lineup in 2⅓ innings, allowing just 1 hit and recording 1 strikeout without allowing any runs. The key arms Lee Ro-un and Kim Min were on their third consecutive game, while closer Jo Byeong-hyeon was on back-to-back games, so Park Si-hu's multi-inning appearance was even more valuable.
On May 29, Park Si-hu recorded his first career victory against NC in Incheon, pitching 2⅔ innings, allowing 2 hits (2 home runs), and 2 earned runs. He entered the game as a relief pitcher in the 4th with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd bases when SSG was leading 4-2. He picked off a runner on 1st base, but during that time, the runner on 3rd base scored. In the 5th, he gave up a solo home run to Davidson, and in the 6th, another solo home run to Kim Hwi-jip, but with support from the team lineup, he handed the game over to the key arms with a score of 6-5. SSG won 6-5, making Park Si-hu the winning pitcher.
Although his first win was somewhat lucky, he has recorded an earned run average of 0 in his next 5 games. In the game against Lotte in Sajik on May 31, he came in to pitch after starter Jeon Young-jun in the bottom of the 5th with SSG leading 4-1 and found himself in a jam with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs after a walk and a hit. He struck out Yoon Dong-hee and then got Go Seung-min to fly out to the catcher, and finally struck out Reyes to achieve a scoreless inning and a relief win.
On the 8th against KT in Suwon, Park Si-hu entered the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning with 2 outs and a runner on 1st, leading 2-1, and recorded a relief win with 1 inning pitched, allowing 1 hit and recording 1 strikeout without allowing any runs. He has pitched in 4 games in June, with 4 innings pitched and 1 earned run (unearned), recording an earned run average of 0 and boasting 2 wins and no losses.
