"Glasses? I don’t know yet. But the results cannot be denied."
LA Dodgers infielder Max Muncy has caught fans' attention with a noticeable performance rebound since wearing glasses. Diagnosed with astigmatism this season, he started wearing prescription glasses during games, and this change is being evaluated as having a positive impact on his hitting.
Before wearing glasses, Muncy recorded a batting average of .180 with 4 RBIs and an OPS of .531 without any home runs. However, after putting on glasses, he transformed into a completely different hitter, recording a batting average of .277, 9 home runs, 31 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.015 over 29 games.
There are similar cases. Kike Hernandez rebounded from a batting average of .191 to .274 after being diagnosed with astigmatism last year, proving the impact of eye health on performance.
However, Muncy himself noted, "It's too early to attribute everything to the glasses." In an interview with 'Dodgers Nation', he explained, "My left eye is more dominant, which is tricky for a left-handed hitter since it’s the back eye. It became more serious after I couldn't wear sunglasses a few years ago, and that was the start of the change."
He added with a smile, "It took time to adjust, but now it's fine. And the results are good."
Despite a rough start to the season, the patience of the Dodgers coaching staff who trusted Muncy is paying off. Muncy, who has rebounded in the middle of the season, is gradually regaining his former power.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will face San Diego at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on the 10th (Korean time).
