Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham) and Lee Kang-in (24, Paris Saint-Germain) will clash for the championship trophy.
The UEFA Super Cup will feature a one-match showdown between the Champions League winners PSG and the Europa League winners Tottenham on Aug. 14 at Stadio Friuli in Italy. The winning team will receive a prize of 5 million euros (approximately 7.7 billion won).
A matchup between Korean players has been realized. Lee Kang-in experienced Champions League victory with PSG. Although he did not play a second in the final, Lee Kang-in contributed to PSG's quadruple with 6 goals.
Son Heung-min also lifted the burden of not winning by clinching the Europa League title. Son Heung-min, who was not in perfect condition due to a foot injury, came on as a substitute in the final. When victory was assured, Son Heung-min could not hold back his tears. It was the first moment of victory since joining Tottenham in 2015.
Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, who perform as a combo on the national team, will compete for the championship trophy for the first time. This is a tough challenge for Tottenham.
The Sun reported that "Tottenham will play Arsenal in the North London Derby in Hong Kong on July 31. After that, Tottenham will fly to Korea to face Newcastle in Seoul. Then, Tottenham will face Bayern Munich in Munich on Aug. 7. Tottenham's offseason schedule is too tight, leaving them little room to aim for the Super Cup title."
Moreover, Tottenham is just before the arrival of new manager Thomas Frank. There is not enough time to maximize organization under the new manager.
PSG also has a tight schedule due to participation in the Club World Cup. They will face Atletico Madrid on June 16, Botafogo on June 20, and Seattle Sounders on June 24.
Korean fans will have an exciting summer with the matchups of Son Heung-min against Kim Min-jae and Son Heung-min against Lee Kang-in.
