Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), which was known to be targeting Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham), is now after 'Swedish monster' Viktor Gyökeres (27, Sporting CP), who is the top priority target for Manchester United (Man U).

France's 'Foot Mercato' reported on the 9th (Korea time) that "Al Hilal is actively pursuing Gyökeres after failing to sign Victor Osimhen, setting him as a new target in their ambitious summer transfer plans."

Al Hilal is making every effort to secure reliable attacking resources ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States starting on the 15th.

Initially, Al Hilal was targeting Victor Osimhen. Osimhen, belonging to Napoli, was previously loaned to Galatasaray (Turkey) for one season. Al Hilal completed negotiations with Napoli, but the deal fell through when Osimhen rejected the transfer.

The player Al Hilal turned its attention to is Gyökeres. The Swedish national team forward Gyökeres recorded an astonishing scoring tally of 54 goals (13 assists) in a total of 52 matches during the 2024-2025 season.

Gyökeres is being pursued not only by Al Hilal but also by Man U. Man U has made Gyökeres, a protégé of the new head coach Rubén Amorim, its top priority target.

Man U has signed Matheus Cunha (26) from Wolverhampton and is in negotiations with Bryan Mbeumo (26, Brentford). Nevertheless, the most reliable target remains Gyökeres.

If Man U fails to sign Gyökeres, it is highly likely they will utilize Rasmus Højlund next season to improve their scoring capabilities. Højlund, who is under contract until 2030, has declared his intention to stay despite various transfer rumors.

Gyökeres is under contract with Sporting until the summer of 2028. However, if a club activates his buyout clause of £85 million (approximately 156.2 billion won), negotiations can happen at any time. Sporting is willing to negotiate at a lower figure of £60 million (approximately 110.3 billion won).

Chelsea, Arsenal, and AC Milan are also targeting him, but a move to Man U, where Coach Amorim is, is positive for Gyökeres himself. However, the situation could become complicated as Al Hilal, which has overwhelming financial power and no constraints on transfer fees, has officially joined the transfer race.

Meanwhile, Al Hilal has also shown interest in signing Son Heung-min. Santi Aouna, a European football transfer market expert, reported that "Al Hilal recently approached Son Heung-min's camp."

Son Heung-min is set to have his contract with Tottenham expire next summer. Therefore, it can be seen that this summer is the last chance for Tottenham to sell Son Heung-min. Above all, Tottenham is unlikely to want to miss the opportunity to garner a transfer fee through Son Heung-min.

Son Heung-min lifted his first career trophy by winning the UEFA Europa League (UEL) title in the 2024-2025 season, bringing Tottenham its first trophy in 17 years. However, he did not hide his cool demeanor after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.

If Tottenham agrees to a transfer fee with Al Hilal and persuades the player, a transfer of Son Heung-min is a possible scenario. If Al Hilal fails to sign Gyökeres, the pursuit of Son Heung-min may increase even further.
