Son Heung-min's mentor will not return to Tottenham.
Tottenham announced the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou on the club's website on the 7th. Tottenham explained, "We announce that Postecoglou has been removed from his position. Winning the Europa League this season was one of the great moments, but we cannot make a decision based on emotions. We wish him well in his future endeavors."
Daniel Levy made the decision. Levy is reported to have visited the Bahamas to meet with officials from the Lewis family, the largest shareholders of Tottenham, and obtained permission for Postecoglou's dismissal. Afterward, Levy unilaterally made the decision.
Coaches such as Thomas Frank of Brentford are mentioned as successors to Postecoglou. European football transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano noted on social media on the 7th, "Tottenham has completed preparations to sign Frank and is in touch with Brentford," mentioning the possibilities.
Another candidate mentioned is Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team. He has a successful history of leading Tottenham from 2014 to 2019. In particular, he was the coach who believed in Son Heung-min and helped him become a star.
Pochettino has managed the U.S. National Team since 2024 after his stints at PSG and Chelsea. The U.S. exhibited some instability, losing 1-2 to Türkiye on the 8th. There are rumors that Pochettino could be dismissed.
However, Pochettino directly denied rumors about his potential return to Tottenham, stating, "There’s no reality to it."
In an interview with ESPN, Pochettino said, "It seems that since I left Tottenham in 2019, my name is always mentioned as a successor. I’ve heard the rumors, but I'm not concerned at all. It's not a realistic story. I am currently the head coach of the U.S. National Team."
Fulham's Marco Silva is also a strong candidate for Tottenham's recruitment. Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola is another candidate among the options.
