Tottenham Hotspur is trying to poach both the manager and the star player from Brentford. Following preparations to appoint Thomas Frank as the manager, there are reports that Tottenham is also attempting to hijack the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo (26).
The British newspaper 'The Sun' reported on the 8th (Korean time): "Tottenham has finished preparations to hijack the 60 million-pound (about 110.5 billion won) transfer of Mbeumo while designating Frank as the next head coach."
The media noted, "Tottenham wants Mbeumo to join the team alongside Frank. After dismissing head coach Ange Postecoglou, they have prioritized Frank as their first option and are looking to make a quick acquisition. They are trying to hijack Mbeumo, who is being pursued by Manchester United, and hope that the appointment of Frank can help them.
'Daily Mail' also reported, "Manchester United has been dealt a blow as Tottenham enters the chase for Mbeumo's transfer. While Manchester United is still negotiating to bring him to Old Trafford, they may face competition from Premier League rivals."
The media added, "Manchester United submitted an initial offer of 55 million pounds (about 101.3 billion won) for Mbeumo earlier this week, but it was rejected, and they are likely to make a second offer soon. However, there is a risk of losing to a familiar opponent, as Tottenham, which dismantled Manchester United in last month's Europa League final to seize the Champions League spot for next season, is also keen on Mbeumo."
The Cameroonian forward Mbeumo is capable of playing both as a right winger and a central forward. He has been active with Brentford since August 2019 and has not changed uniforms even after the team was promoted to the Premier League.
Mbeumo has had a standout season this year, participating in all 38 Premier League matches and scoring 20 goals with 7 assists, setting a new career high. Even after his partner Ivan Toney left for Saudi Arabia last summer, Mbeumo has shone even brighter.
Manchester United, looking to bolster its attack this summer, has set its sights on Mbeumo. Plans are in place for him to form a triangular attack with already signed Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes. Although their initial offer to Brentford was rejected, they plan to raise the bid to 60 million pounds in hopes of persuading them.
Mbeumo also desires a transfer to Manchester United. He has drawn interest from other big Premier League clubs, such as Arsenal and Newcastle United, but has decided to join Manchester United. It is reported that, like Cunha, he has a special affection for Manchester United.
However, a sudden variable has emerged. Tottenham has entered the race for Mbeumo's transfer late. Although they cannot promise as much salary as Manchester United, they hope the presence of manager Frank, who is in negotiations for his appointment, will help persuade Mbeumo.
Manager Frank has been reliably leading Brentford since 2018. He is hailed as a hero for stabilizing a team that languished in the lower leagues into a mid-table team in the Premier League. He has already spent six seasons with Mbeumo.
Now, manager Frank is on the verge of joining Tottenham. He has already discussed the club's project and summer transfer market plans with Tottenham and plans to engage in full negotiations next week. Tottenham is optimistic about appointing Frank and is expected to trigger a 10 million-pound (about 18.4 billion won) buyout clause.
Frank's move to Tottenham could be a significant variable in the Mbeumo transfer race. The Sun reported, "Frank is willing to move to Tottenham. A compensation package of 10 million pounds should not be an issue," adding, "This would allow Tottenham to seriously join the pursuit of Mbeumo while also providing an opportunity to play in the Champions League. They also have cash equivalent to the 60 million pounds that Manchester United will offer."
