It has been revealed that Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) has indeed had discussions with a Saudi Arabian club.

European football transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano appeared in a global sports media podcast 'DAZN' on the 7th (Korean time) and noted in response to questions about Son's move to Saudi Arabia, 'The reason these stories are coming out is that there is a good relationship between Son's agent and the Saudi clubs.' He added, 'There have been discussions over the last few weeks. It is true that there is interest from the Saudi side.'

He added, 'But from what I have heard, there is still no official negotiation or proposal with Tottenham. Therefore, the negotiations can still be considered in the early stages. We'll have to wait and see how it goes.'

Tottenham dismissed coach Ange Postecoglou on the 6th. Romano predicted that Son's future at the club and any potential transfers would depend on who the new coach would be.

He explained, 'We also need to see who the new Tottenham coach will be. If the new coach says, 'Son is a player we cannot let go under any circumstances. He must be part of the team,' then Tottenham will try to keep the player (Son).'

Recently, rumors about Son's transfer from Tottenham have been circulating. This may be a natural occurrence in the world of professional sports where money is involved.

Son Heung-min is under contract with Tottenham until June 2026. This summer is viewed as the last opportunity for Tottenham to sell Son and secure a transfer fee. There is also the winter transfer market, but if a transfer falls through, he could become a free agent in a year.

The BBC reported on the 5th, citing the British news agency PA Media, that 'Tottenham will only sell Son this summer if a significant transfer fee comes in.'

The Sun also noted that 'Tottenham does not want to let Son go, but they may consider a sale if a huge offer comes in.'

PA Media reported, 'Saudi Pro League clubs that were interested in signing Son two years ago are showing interest again.' Clubs such as Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Hilal are said to be among those reaching out.

The Saudi league's summer transfer window opens on July 20.

The BBC stated, 'Son Heung-min helped Tottenham win their first European competition trophy in 40 years by defeating Manchester United (Man U) in the Europa League final last month. Tottenham has also secured a place in next season's Champions League. However, Son finished this season with a career-low of 11 goals due to the impact of injuries, which did not meet expectations,' creating an atmosphere that he may leave Tottenham as he enters the aging curve.

Son Heung-min joined Tottenham in 2015 and has recorded 173 goals and 101 assists in a total of 454 appearances, making him the sixth most capped and fifth all-time top scorer in Tottenham's history. Since 2023, he has been leading the team as the first Asian captain.

Despite these achievements, Son's future remains uncertain. ESPN also pointed out on the 31st of last month, citing TalkSport, 'Son Heung-min is one of the key targets for Saudi league clubs that are trying to improve the level of their league by acquiring talented players, while also expanding into the international market.'

Son Heung-min has denied past transfer rumors to the Saudi league. After the A-match against El Salvador in 2023, he said, 'I remember what Ki Sung-yueng said about not going to the Chinese league if I'm the captain of the South Korean national team. There are still things to do in the Premier League,' denying the transfer rumors.

The 'things to do' that Son mentioned were interpreted as winning. He had not lifted a trophy while at Tottenham so far. However, he fulfilled that dream this season by reaching the top of the Europa League.

With everything he wanted to achieve at Tottenham accomplished, his decision to stay depends on how big of a 'huge offer' comes in. Additionally, as Romano mentioned, the identity of Postecoglou's successor will likely have a significant impact.

Tottenham announced on their official website on the 7th, 'After considerable deliberation, we have decided to part ways with coach Postecoglou. While winning the Europa League is a remarkable achievement, we needed to make a cool-headed judgment rather than be driven by emotion. We wish him good luck in the future.'

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy personally made the decision to dismiss him. The British media 'Telegraph' reported, 'Postecoglou was dismissed just weeks after winning the Europa League (May 22). Tottenham finalized the terms of his dismissal after he returned from vacation on Friday afternoon, announcing the decision publicly. Chairman Levy made the final decision, and everyone within the club has already been informed of it.'

Postecoglou, who is from Australia, took over as Tottenham's head coach in summer 2023 following Antonio Conte. Despite being criticized for lacking European experience outside Celtic, he caused a sensation by leading Tottenham to the top of the Premier League with an aggressive tactic at the start of the 2023-2024 season.

However, a monotonous offensive strategy and strenuous match management led to a downturn in the second half. There were also injuries due to intense training. This season has been similar. Ultimately, Tottenham experienced a sharp decline at the end of the season, suffering a 1-4 defeat to Brighton in the final match. With 11 wins, 5 draws, and 22 losses in 38 matches, they finished 17th in the Premier League, marking the lowest ranking in the club's history and tying the record for the most losses in a single season (22 losses).

Despite this, coach Postecoglou maintained his confidence, stating, 'I have always won in my second year.' Ultimately, he kept his promise by lifting the trophy after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final. Son also embraced his first trophy.

However, Chairman Levy made the cold decision to dismiss coach Postecoglou. The 'Telegraph' described it as 'the most brutal decision during Levy's long tenure,' stating, 'Coach Postecoglou fulfilled promises regarding winning, changing playing style, and utilizing young players, yet was still dismissed.'
