Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in Takefusa Kubo (24, Real Sociedad).
ESPN reported on the 5th (Korean time) citing Germany's Bild that "Bayern Munich is seeking to acquire a new winger amid uncertainties surrounding Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman's futures," mentioning Kubo as a target.
Born in 2001, Japanese midfielder Kubo primarily plays as a right winger, demonstrating agility through dribbling and quick footwork. He shows excellent skills in passing, shooting, and set-piece kicks, making him also usable as a playmaker. His small stature makes him vulnerable in aerial duels, and he is noted to have some inconsistency in his performance.
Kubo has shown remarkable growth since the 2022-2023 season, setting the record for the most goals by an Asian player in a single La Liga season. Though consistency and physicality remain challenges, he is highly regarded for his potential and versatility.
Additionally, in the 2024-2025 season, he appeared in 52 official matches, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists according to Transfermarkt, establishing himself as a key player.
Thus, a team interested in Kubo has emerged, namely Bayern Munich, the "German giant."
ESPN noted that "looking for a new wide attacker, Bayern has been linked with Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton & Hove Albion and Nico Williams of Athletic Club. While this has been known, recent reports suggest that Kubo has risen to the top of Bayern's acquisition list."
The media added that "23-year-old Kubo has delivered impressive performances in La Liga this season, and his versatility is a major attraction for Bayern."
This is not the first time big clubs have shown interest in Kubo. Earlier, on May 29, reports suggested Liverpool and Arsenal were keen on Kubo. At that time, Tribuna reported that "Kubo is contracted with Sociedad until 2029, but recent changes have raised questions about his long-term stay. In particular, he recently turned down a massive four-year total offer of €160 million (about 248 billion won) from a Saudi Arabian club, clearly expressing his desire to continue his career in Europe."
At that time, Tribuna cited Spain's AS, stating that "Liverpool and Arsenal are knocking on Kubo's door. Both clubs have shown concrete interest. Kubo recently changed agents, and the new agent is expected to discuss his future with Real Sociedad this week."
