Utility player Tommy Edman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has re-injured his ankle. Opportunities for Kim Hye-sung are expected to increase.

Dodgers Nation reported on the 5th (Korea time) that "Dodgers utility player Edman re-injured his ankle a few days ago, according to manager Dave Roberts."

He added, "Edman has been suffering from a right ankle injury since late April, which caused him to be on the injured list (IL) for about three weeks. He returned to the major leagues in mid last month, but he was excluded from the starting lineup on the 4th and 5th for two consecutive days. This is due to the recent re-injury of his ankle."

The outlet stated, "Roberts noted that he has not yet decided whether to place Edman on the IL, but outfielder Estuery Luis, who appeared at Dodger Stadium that day, is waiting in the taxi squad (practice roster)." If Edman is placed on the injured list, Luis is expected to be included in the major league roster in place of Edman. Roberts stated about Edman's current condition, "We are monitoring his status daily."

Luis, who recorded 67 stolen bases in 2023, is batting .274 with 20 RBIs and 27 stolen bases in Triple-A Oklahoma City, with an OPS of .791. If included in the roster, Luis is expected to provide the Dodgers with speed and stable outfield defense.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers will face the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, that day. The Dodgers' batting order includes designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, shortstop Mookie Betts, first baseman Freddie Freeman, right fielder Teoscar Hernández, third baseman Max Muncy, center fielder Andy Pahes, left fielder Michael Conforto, catcher Dalton Rushing, and second baseman Kiké Hernández.

The Dodgers' starting pitcher is Tony Gonsolin, who has a record of 3 wins and 1 loss with an ERA of 5.23 in 6 games this season.

In response, the Mets have configured their starting lineup with shortstop Francisco Lindor, left fielder Brandon Nimmo, right fielder Juan Soto, first baseman Pete Alonso, second baseman Brett Baty, designated hitter Jared Young, third baseman Ronnie Mauricio, center fielder Jeff McNeil, and catcher Luis Torrens.

The Mets are slated to start right-hander Griffin Canning, who has a record of 5 wins and 2 losses with an ERA of 3.23 this season.
