The Korea Professional Baseball Samsung Lions halted the SSG Landers' five-game winning streak.
Samsung won 3-1 in an away game held on the 5th at Incheon SSG Landers Field. Ku Ja-wook, who had been struggling with severe batting woes, led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while left-handed Lee Seung-hyun secured his second victory of the season. Meanwhile, SSG concluded their win streak at '4'.
Samsung, featuring left-handed pitcher Lee Seung-hyun, constructed their starting lineup with designated hitter Kim Ji-chan, right fielder Kim Tae-hoon, left fielder Ku Ja-wook, first baseman Lewin Diaz, third baseman Kim Young-hoon, catcher Kim Jae-sung, shortstop Lee Jae-hyun, center fielder Park Seung-kyu, and second baseman Yang Do-geun.
SSG's starting pitcher is foreign pitcher Mitch White. The lineup consisted of center fielder Oh Tae-gon, left fielder Guillermo Heredia, designated hitter Choi Jeong, first baseman Go Myung-jun, right fielder Han Yu-seom, catcher Lee Ji-young, shortstop Park Seong-han, third baseman Kim Chan-hyung, and second baseman Jung Jun-jae.
The first point went to Samsung. In the 5th inning, lead-off batter Lee Jae-hyun drew a walk. Park Seung-kyu was retired on a foul fly to third base, but Yang Do-geun hit a single, putting runners on first and second. Although Kim Ji-chan struck out swinging, seemingly dampening the momentum, Kim Tae-hoon stepped on first base due to an error by the opponent and created a golden opportunity with the bases loaded and two outs. Ku Ja-wook's infield hit allowed Samsung to score first. Initially, the first base umpire ruled him out, but the call was overturned to safe after Samsung's bench requested a video review.
Samsung needed more runs and added another point with Ku Ja-wook's timely hit. After one out in the 7th inning, Yang Do-geun drew a walk. Kim Ji-chan reached base on a ground ball to second, making it two outs with a runner on first. Kim Ji-chan stole second base, and Lee Seung-gyu reached first base on a hit-by-pitch. With runners on first and second, Ku Ja-wook hit a single to right field, extending the lead to 2-0.
SSG, having missed a bases-loaded opportunity in the 6th inning, managed only one run from Kim Chan-hyung's timely hit with one out and runners on first and second in the 7th inning. Samsung sealed the game with a sacrifice fly by Lee Seung-gyu in the 9th inning.
Samsung's starting pitcher Lee Seung-hyun earned his second victory of the season, pitching five innings with three hits allowed, four strikeouts, and no runs scored. The 'new closer' Lee Ho-seong came to the mound in a crisis situation with two outs and runners on first and third in the 7th inning, pitching 2⅓ innings with one hit allowed, five strikeouts, and no runs scored, adding a save. Ku Ja-wook showcased the sharpest batting touch among Samsung's hitters, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
On the other hand, SSG's starter White pitched well, allowing six hits, one walk, eight strikeouts, and one unearned run over six innings, but ended up taking the loss. Kim Chan-hyung contributed one RBI, including a multi-hit game.
