Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has allowed Lee Kang-in (24) to transfer.
French media outlet L'Équipe reported on the 3rd (Korea time) that 'PSG has allowed Lee Kang-in and Gonzalo Hamus to transfer this summer.'
Lee Kang-in has appeared in 45 official matches this season, but his starts have been infrequent. In the UEFA Champions League (UCL), he has not played a single match since being substituted in during the second leg of the Round of 16 against Liverpool in March.
PSG has a contract with Lee Kang-in until 2028. However, the club plans to sell him if a suitable transfer fee is presented.
PSG won 5-0 against Inter Milan in the UCL final for the 2024-2025 season held at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, on the 1st, marking their first title since the club's founding. Lee Kang-in lifted the Big Ear trophy, becoming the first Korean player to do so since Park Ji-sung 17 years ago.
However, Lee Kang-in did not play in the final. Coach Enrique substituted in senior players Senni Mayulu, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Gonzalo Hamus even during the second half with a 5-0 lead.
Lee Kang-in's absence in the final was somewhat expected. He has only played about 19 minutes during extra time in the Round of 16 against Liverpool and remained on the bench for both the quarterfinal match against Aston Villa and the semifinal match against Arsenal.
In the second half of the season, he has also fallen behind in the competition for starting positions. Coach Enrique deployed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé, and Bradley Barcola in the attack while frequently using midfielders Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, and João Neves.
On the 6th of last month, Lee Kang-in attracted fans' attention by deleting his affiliation with PSG from his social media. Local media speculated that a breakup with PSG was imminent.
Italian Serie A clubs Napoli, Juventus, and AC Milan have shown interest in Lee Kang-in. Among them, Napoli is reported to be the most proactive.
Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 reported on the 28th of last month that 'Napoli plans to assign one of the two non-European quota spots for next season to Lee Kang-in. There will be no contract renewal with PSG, and Napoli has begun contact with Lee Kang-in.'
'Corriere dello Sport' also noted on the 26th of last month that 'Napoli really likes Lee Kang-in, who has not settled at PSG' and evaluated, 'Lee Kang-in has excellent pitch vision and shooting ability and can play various positions such as winger, attacking midfielder, and central midfielder.'
Above all, Lee Kang-in himself wants to transfer. The media reported, 'Lee Kang-in wants a new environment. The good relationship between PSG and Napoli will help facilitate the transfer negotiations.'
