Due to injuries, three players will be excluded from the Under-22 (U-22) call-up list.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on the 2nd, "U-22 national team player Kang Sang-yoon (Jeonbuk) will be replaced due to a left knee contusion, Han Hyun-seo (Pohang) due to a hip muscle contusion, and Kim Dong-jin (Pohang) due to a lumbar sprain," adding, "Two additional players will be called up to replace Seung-won (Gimcheon)."
The South Korean U-22 national team, led by new head coach Lee Min-seong, will face Australia in a friendly match invited by Hana Bank at 7 p.m. on the 5th at Yongin Mir Stadium.
The squad led by Lee Min-seong is also scheduled to play a closed training match against Australia on the 9th.
Previously, the KFA noted on the 27th of last month that "Lee Min-seong, the former coach of Daejeon Hana Citizen, has been appointed as the U-22 national team coach to lead the team through the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics."
Lee Min-seong played for Busan Daewoo Royals (Busan Icons), Pohang Steelers, and FC Seoul during his player career, appearing in 200 K League matches. As a national representative, he participated in two World Cups and played in 67 A matches. He became a nationwide star player with the comeback goal during the away match against Japan in the final round of the France World Cup qualifiers, held on September 28, 1997, known as the "Battle of Tokyo."
After retiring from play, he began his coaching career in 2010 as a playing coach for Yongin City Hall in the National League and has worked as a coach for various clubs including Guangzhou Evergrande (China), Gangwon FC, and Ulsan Hyundai. He was later appointed as the head coach of the South Korean U-23 national team in 2018, contributing to winning gold at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship. He has been the head coach of Daejeon Hana Citizen since December 2020, initiating his coaching career and leading the team to promotion to the first division in the 2022 season, continuing until May 2024.
The roster for the friendly match against Australia was selected this time in discussions between Commissioner Hyun-young Min and previous association coaches who know the players of this age group well to ensure smooth tournament preparation and call-up procedures. The list includes 28 players, including Bae Jun-ho (Stoke City) and Lee Hyun-joo (Hannover 96).
