Lee Kang-in (24) of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has added a UEFA Champions League (UCL) title to his career.
PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the single-match final of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League (UCL) held at Football Arena Munich in Munich, Germany, on the 1st (Korea time).
Founded in 1970, PSG claimed its first European champion title in 55 years. It also washed away the disappointment of finishing as runners-up after being blocked by Bayern Munich during the 2019-2020 season.
This season, PSG won the domestic treble, clinching the Ligue 1, Trophée des Champions, and Coupe de France titles. They also dominated Europe, completing a quadruple.
Although Lee Kang-in was named on the substitute list that day, he did not get a chance to play. Nevertheless, he became the second Korean player to win the Champions League in 17 years since Park Ji-sung in the 2007-2008 season.
Earlier, Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) also lifted the championship trophy. On the 22nd of last month, he raised the trophy after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the final of the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League (UEL) held at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.
Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, raised the trophy high as the representative of the team, breaking the team’s 15-year title drought.
This is only the second time that Korean players have reached the tops of both the UCL and UEL in the same season since the 2007-2008 season. Back then, Park Ji-sung stood at the top of the Champions League while Kim Dong-jin and Lee Ho, who were with Zenit, won the UEFA Cup (now Europa League).
In August, Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in will meet at the UEFA Super Cup. The UEFA Super Cup is a match that pits the winners of the previous season's UCL and UEL against each other in a single match.
However, if either player transfers immediately when the upcoming summer transfer market opens, this match will not occur.
