KT successfully achieved a winning streak, showcasing the dominance of starting pitcher Heisus.
The professional baseball team KT Wiz won 3-1 against the KIA Tigers in the 7th game of the season on the 30th at Suwon KT Wiz Park, as part of the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League.
With this victory, KT recorded 29 wins, 3 draws, and 25 losses while marking their second consecutive win. In contrast, KIA's three-game winning streak was halted, and they fell below a .500 winning percentage, with a record of 26 wins, 1 draw, and 27 losses.
The home team KT fielded a starting lineup against KIA's starting pitcher Kim Do-hyun that included Kim Min-hyuk (left fielder), Heo Kyung-min (third baseman), Ahn Hyun-min (designated hitter), Mel Rojas Jr. (right fielder), Moon Sang-chul (first baseman), Kim Sang-su (second baseman), Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder), Kwon Dong-jin (shortstop), and Jo Dae-hyun (catcher). Starting catcher Jang Seong-woo was excluded due to the impact of being hit on the knee by a ball the previous day, and Hwang Jae-kyun, who limped during a baserunning situation the day before, was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring injury and is expected to recover in 6 to 8 weeks.
In response, KIA put together a roster against KT's starter Emmanuel de Heisus that included Park Chan-ho (shortstop), Yoon Do-hyun (second baseman), Hwang Dae-in (first baseman), Choi Hyung-woo (designated hitter), Lee Woo-sung (left fielder), Jeong Hae-won (right fielder), Park Min (third baseman), Kim Tae-kwon (catcher), and Kim Ho-ryeong (center fielder). Against the left-handed Heisus, the lineup featured 8 right-handed batters, excluding Choi Hyung-woo.
KT scored the first and decisive run in the bottom of the third inning. After one out, Kim Min-hyuk hit a single to center, Heo Kyung-min recorded an infield hit, and Ahn Hyun-min was hit by a pitch, filling the bases, when Rojas broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to left field. However, the opportunity continued with two outs and the bases loaded, but Kim Sang-su was retired on a line drive to shortstop, resulting in missed chances. The well-hit ball went straight to shortstop Park Chan-ho.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, leading off Bae Jeong-dae and Jo Dae-hyun reached base with hits, creating a one-out, runners on first and third opportunity. Kim Min-hyuk then hit a ground ball to second on the first pitch from Kim Do-hyun, bringing home the runner from third, Bae Jeong-dae.
KT extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run by Ahn Hyun-min leading off. Ahn Hyun-min correctly hit the 4th pitch from Kim Do-hyun, a fastball of 147 km/h elevated, resulting in a massive home run of 131.8 meters in distance. Following his first career grand slam the day before, he hit another home run for two consecutive days, reaching a total of 9 home runs for the season.
KIA struggled with scoreless opportunities against Heisus. In the top of the first inning, after one out, Yoon Do-hyun started with a double, but Hwang Dae-in struck out swinging, and Choi Hyung-woo grounded out to shortstop. In the top of the fourth inning, after Choi Hyung-woo had a single, Lee Woo-sung faced a fielder's choice, and Jeong Hae-won was forced out on a double play starting from second baseman to shortstop to first. In the top of the sixth, Park Chan-ho got a hit, and Hwang Dae-in walked, generating a one-out, runners on first and second opportunity, but Choi Hyung-woo struck out swinging, and Lee Woo-sung popped out to left field, resulting in another missed chance.
KT also had a chance in the bottom of the sixth with Kwon Dong-jin getting on base with a walk, followed by Jo Dae-hyun's sacrifice bunt and an opposing wild pitch that brought him to third base. However, Kim Min-hyuk hit a short fly out to right field, and Heo Kyung-min grounded out to third to end the inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, KIA retaliated with a solo home run by Yoon Do-hyun after two outs, but the momentum had already shifted to the opposing team.
KT starter Heisus pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 9 batters for 0 earned runs, completing an excellent outing with 106 pitches to achieve his 4th win of the season (4 losses). After achieving a quality start for the first time in a month since facing the Doosan Bears on April 30, he showcased the quality of an ace. This was the first quality start plus since March 28 against the Lotte Giants, roughly two months ago.
Heisus set a milestone in the second inning by allowing the lead-off batter Lee Woo-sung to reach base via a strikeout foul-out before striking out Jeong Hae-won, Park Min, and Kim Tae-kwon in succession, marking the 11th instance in KBO League history of recording 4 strikeouts in one inning.
Next, Kim Min-soo (1 inning, 1 earned run) and Park Young-hyun (1 inning, no earned runs) pitched in order, with Park Young-hyun registering his 19th save of the season.
In contrast, KIA starter Kim Do-hyun faced 5 innings, allowing 6 hits (1 home run), issuing 3 walks, striking out 5 batters, and allowing 3 earned runs on 96 pitches, suffering his 3rd loss of the season (2 wins). Including Yoon Do-hyun's home run, he allowed 3 hits, while Choi Hyung-woo achieved his 2,505th career hit ('the second-most.') which did not bring any glory to the defeat.
