Manchester United (Man U) captain Bruno Fernandes (30) is seriously considering a transfer to the prestigious Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.
The British publication The Athletic reported on the 30th (Korea time) that "Fernandes' agent has flown to Saudi Arabia for ongoing negotiations," noting that "Al Hilal has proposed a total salary of 25 million euros (about 39.1 billion won) over four years for the Man U captain and an transfer fee of 80 million pounds (about 148.9 billion won) to Man U.
The outcome remains uncertain. However, since Fernandes' agent is directly sitting at the negotiation table in Saudi Arabia, it is also not possible to rule out the possibility of him leaving Man U.
Most importantly, a specific amount has been reported. The 25 million euros is three times the salary Fernandes currently receives at Man U. The financially struggling Man U club can also benefit significantly from the high transfer fee.
After losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final, Fernandes noted, "If the club thinks it needs to part ways to secure funding, that’s sometimes what football is about," indicating an openness to the possibility of a transfer.
However, following the final league match against Aston Villa, Fernandes added regarding his potential stay, "I am living my dream in the world's best league and clubs. I have no further wishes."
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim strongly desires Fernandes to remain. He emphasized, "Bruno is a very important player for the team we want to build. He is the one who takes responsibility during difficult moments. That’s expected of a captain."
The Man U club, currently on tour in Hong Kong after Malaysia, is keeping an eye on the situation. Fernandes had also considered leaving when transfer rumors surfaced last summer. However, he ultimately signed a contract extension until 2027.
The publication analyzed, "Currently, Man U's financial situation has worsened compared to a year ago. The income has decreased due to the absence from European competitions, which is one of the factors influencing Fernandes' decision."
It also reported that "internally, the club is discussing the possibility that if it accepts Al Hilal's offer, European clubs may also enter the transfer war."
