Professional baseball SSG Landers' Park Si-hu (24) achieved his first victory in his debut.
On the 29th, Park Si-hu appeared in relief in the game against the NC Dinos at the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' held at Incheon SSG Landers Field, recording 2⅔ innings, 2 hits (2 home runs), and 2 earned runs for the victory.
With SSG leading 4-2 in the top of the 4th inning with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd base, Park Si-hu took the mound in place of Park Ki-ho and prevented the 1st base runner, Choi Jeong-won, from stealing. The 1st base runner was eventually caught in a rundown and was out, but in the meantime, the 3rd base runner, Kim Hwi-jip, scored to reduce the deficit by one run.
In the 5th inning, Park Si-hu quickly recorded 2 outs by catching both Kim Joo-won and Kwon Hee-dong with pop-ups. However, he allowed a game-tying solo home run over the center fence after throwing a 146 km/h two-seamer to Matt Davidson. Still, Park Si-hu remained composed and ended the inning without allowing any more runs by getting Park Gun-woo to ground out to the shortstop.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, SSG regained a 6-4 lead with stolen base runs from Han Yu-seom and Oh Tae-gon, along with a run-scoring hit from Lee Ji-young. In the top of the 6th, Park Si-hu handled Cheon Jae-hwan, Park Min-woo, and Park Se-hyuk all with ground balls. In the 7th inning, he threw a 134 km/h slider to lead-off batter Kim Hwi-jip, allowing another solo home run. Choi Jeong-won was caught with a ground ball to the first baseman, and he handed the mound over to Noh Gyeong-eun, finishing his appearance. The SSG bullpen held scoreless over the remaining innings to secure a 6-5 victory. SSG achieved its second consecutive win, and Park Si-hu succeeded in his first victory.
After the game, Park Si-hu received enthusiastic congratulations from his teammates and said in a post-game interview, “I was a bit upset that they didn’t congratulate me on my first hold, but they did today,” while smiling. He continued, “There were several games where I could have been the winning pitcher, but I was unable to finish the inning or allowed the game to be tied or turned around, which was disappointing. Today, I allowed a home run, but I think I was lucky to become the winning pitcher because my teammates scored for me.”
Joining SK (now SSG) in the 2nd round, 10th pick (100th overall) of the 2020 Rookie Draft, Park Si-hu became a winning pitcher for the first time in his 6th season as a professional player. Park Si-hu said, “It feels like the hard work I put in since the draft has returned with good results.” He added, “Today, I also felt a bit disappointed. Thankfully, the pitchers behind me did well. The coach also told me not to be too discouraged when I allowed the home run to Davidson and to keep throwing. So even when I allowed a home run to Kim Hwi-jip, I just tried to keep pitching hard.”
This season, Park Si-hu has recorded 1 win and 2 holds with an earned run average of 3.10 over 15 games (20⅓ innings). He stated, “I didn't think it would take this long to get my first win. I imagined it, but I think I thought that it was still not time. I thought, ‘It’s still not time. I need to do more. I have to do more than others,’ and I think that’s how I’ve made it this far.”
Park Si-hu, who said, “Throwing the ball is always enjoyable,” mentioned, “This year, it seems like my mindset has changed a lot. Honestly, I didn’t think I was that good during the exhibition games, but Coach Lee Seung-ho told me to throw confidently and believe in myself, and Coach Gyeon Ho also often reassured me that I was doing fine, which gave me confidence. Senior Kim Gwang-hyun advised me, ‘You must throw the slider low, and there should be no waste pitches.’ Thanks to the coach, the coaching staff, and my teammates, I could achieve my first win. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone, especially my parents, who have supported me so I wouldn’t give up on baseball.”
