Veteran Oh Seung-hwan of the Samsung Lions recorded scoreless outings in two consecutive games in the Futures League. He had mild muscle soreness but quickly recovered.
Oh Seung-hwan took the mound as a relief pitcher on the 28th in the 2025 Futures League game against the SSG Landers at Gyeongsan Stadium, recording one inning with no hits and no earned runs. He issued one walk.
Oh Seung-hwan entered the game in the top of the sixth while leading 7-4. He faced the first batter, Hyun Won-hwi, recording two foul balls, and got him out on a pop-up to center field. Lee Yul-ye recorded the second out with a pop-up to left field. In his matchup with Kim Chang-pyeong, he reached a full count before allowing a walk on the seventh pitch. He ended the inning without allowing a run by getting Choi Yoon-seok to pop out to the second baseman.
Oh Seung-hwan underwent rehabilitation for about a month due to a thigh injury at the beginning of April. He has been pitching in the Futures League every 3-4 days since mid-May. On the 24th, Oh Seung-hwan completed one inning with one strikeout and perfect pitching against the KT Wiz in the Futures League. However, he experienced muscle soreness in his neck after the game.
After three days of rest to recover his physical condition, he recorded one inning with no earned runs. His fastball reached a maximum speed of 146 km/h. Oh Seung-hwan's fastball speed had been lingering in the low 140s in his recent outings. Manager Park Jin-man noted, "The fastball speed needs to increase" when mentioning the guidelines for his return to the first team.
He threw 146 km/h in a healthy condition. He could make one more appearance or potentially return to the first team by the weekend. Oh Seung-hwan has pitched in five Futures League games in May, recording five innings with three hits, one walk, two strikeouts, and two earned runs, achieving an earned run average of 3.60.
Currently, the Samsung bullpen has seen Kim Jae-yoon step down from the closer role due to issues with his pitching. Rookie Lee Ho-seong has been filling in as the interim closer. There is a shortage of bullpen pitchers to cover the sixth and seventh innings. Oh Seung-hwan has been tasked with bullpen duties pitching in the sixth and seventh innings since the latter half of last year, rather than closing.
As of last year, Oh Seung-hwan has appeared in a total of 726 games in the KBO League, recording 44 wins, 33 losses, 427 saves, 19 holds, and an earned run average of 2.25. This year marks the final season of his two-year $22 million free agent contract.
