The Korea Volleyball Association (Chairman Oh Han-nam) announced that it will hold the '2025 Korea U16 Volleyball National Team Selection Tryout' from May 30 to June 1 for 2 nights and 3 days.
This tryout is a project conducted with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, marking the first age-specific national team selection competition held domestically. The men's division will be held at Anyang Yeonhyeon Middle School, while the women's division will take place at Cheongju Geumcheon Middle School, with a total of 40 athletes (20 male and 20 female) participating.
This tryout will be conducted through a comprehensive evaluation in four areas: ▲performance measurement ▲interview assessment ▲training assessment ▲mock matches. In particular, athletes' potential will be evaluated from various angles through scientific performance measurement by professional firms and mock matches directly assessed by U16 national team coaches and the Performance Improvement Committee.
In addition, a time for 'dialogue with national team seniors' has been arranged to motivate the athletes and present them with a vision. The current men's national team coach, Isanaye Ramirez, will attend the men's division, while former national team athlete Pyo Seung-joo will participate in the women's division to share valuable experiences and advice with the juniors.
Commissioners from the men’s and women’s Performance Improvement Committees will be present at the tryout to discuss with U16 national team coaches, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process, thereby securing the objectivity and reliability of the selection.
A representative of the Korea Volleyball Association noted, 'This U16 national team tryout is an important starting point for discovering the next generation of talent that will be responsible for the future of Korean volleyball,' and added, 'Under the active support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, we will establish a systematic and scientific selection system to discover and nurture outstanding prospects at an early stage.'
Meanwhile, the U16 national team selected through this tryout is expected to gain practical experience by participating in the 2025 Asian U16 Volleyball Championship and grow into key talents that will lead the future of Korean volleyball.
