Heo Hoon (30) chose to become a member of the super team rather than defeating it.
The top free agent Heo Hoon selected Busan KCC. KCC announced on the 28th that it had signed a contract with Heo Hoon for a period of 5 years, with total aggregates in the first season of 800 million won (annual salary of 650 million won, incentives of 150 million won).
KCC held a press conference on the 29th at the KBL Center in Sinsa-dong, Seoul. Heo Hoon, his brother Heo Woong, and coach Lee Sang-min participated.
The top free agent Heo Hoon was the priority guard for all teams. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a good point guard in professional basketball. Suwon KT promised the best deal in history to retain franchise star Heo Hoon. However, Heo Hoon chose KCC, which had relatively lower salary conditions.
Heo Hoon noted, "The reason I came to KCC is to win. I thought it was a team capable of winning. It was my choice in the end, despite my brother (Heo Woong) playing a role. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
In the 2024 championship, Heo Hoon bowed his head to the super team KCC. Heo Hoon performed well with an average of 26.6 points, 6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, but has painful memories of failing to win with a record of 1 win and 4 losses. KT has flashy domestic players, but last season was also limited to the semifinals.
Heo Hoon explained, "I didn’t meet expectations at KT. I came to a place with a higher chance of winning." This may be disappointing for KT fans who have supported Heo Hoon since his professional debut.
With Heo Hoon's addition, KCC filled its only weak point at point guard. Heo Woong, Song Gyo-chang, Choi Jun-Yong, and Lee Seung-hyun are all positioned as MVP-level national representatives. However, there remains the task of who to exclude from the protected player list. If KT does not opt for cash, one player must go to KT.
His older brother Heo Woong is expected to be excluded from the protected player list. Heo Hoon is also envisioning a future playing with Choi Jun-Yong, a fellow Yonsei University alumnus. This leaves Song Gyo-chang and Lee Seung-hyun. For the super team to function completely, KT must select one additional player outside the protected list and choose to pay 1.4 billion won instead of compensation of 1.4 billion won.
Heo Hoon said, "(Choi) Jun-Yong played in college, and (Song) Gyo-chang was in the military with me. (Lee) Seung-hyun was the same. I am close to all the players," and he delegated the protected player issue to the club.
