# On the 27th, a game between Hanwha Eagles and LG Twins was held at Jamsil Stadium. It was the bottom of the seventh inning with Hanwha trailing 1-2.
Hanwha relief pitcher Kim Beom-Su threw a slider on the fifth pitch with one out against Lee Young-bin, who attempted to swing but stopped. It appeared that the bat had turned. The home plate umpire checked the swing with the third base umpire, who ruled no swing. Hanwha players showed expressions of regret, and the replay on the TV broadcast indicated the bat had turned.
Hanwha manager Kim Kyung-moon came out of the dugout to appeal to the third base umpire and the home plate umpire. The situation was critical with a one-point difference, making it crucial whether it was a strikeout or not. However, a checked swing is not subject to video review, and a decision made by an umpire is unlikely to be overturned. Manager Kim knew this but briefly protested out of disappointment since it appeared to be a clear swing before returning to the dugout.
On the 28th at Jamsil Stadium, Hanwha manager Kim Kyung-moon and LG manager Youm Kyoung-youb both expressed regret over the checked swing ruling, stating, "We should implement video reviews for checked swings starting in the second half of the season."
In a pre-game interview with reporters, Youm Kyoung-youb mentioned that the checked swing video reviews currently conducted in the second team should be implemented in the first team as soon as possible. Youm stated, "We need to do this quickly. It has a huge impact on the game. Each game is significant. When there are runners on base, whether it's a strikeout or not makes a tremendous difference, for example, whether it’s a strikeout on 2 balls and 2 strikes or if it goes to a full count."
He also noted, "Umpires feel burdened, and with video reviews, it would also make it easier for them. It removes the chance of misunderstandings. The umpires wouldn’t experience stress either."
Youm stated, "I mentioned this during the managers' meeting as well. I hope it can be implemented after the first half of the season. The managers generally share that thought." There are opinions that performing video reviews for checked swings is not significantly difficult. Youm argued, "There are ways to install a camera for checked swing reviews in the stadium, but it is also sufficiently possible with the cameras used for the current broadcasts. Both teams can play baseball in a fair environment."
After the home team interview, the away team manager interview was conducted, and Kim Kyung-moon stated, "Umpires do make mistakes, and I fully understand that; however, from what I saw yesterday, it clearly turned a lot. The first base umpire should have called it. An umpire with that level of experience should have done it, and I asked the third base umpire, and he concurred. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) needs to expedite other matters while also quickly implementing checked swing video reviews."
Kim noted, "There may be cases where we benefit, but (due to checked swing errors) trust is broken between us," adding, "It would not be a problem if it happens after the All-Star break. The KBO is rushing to handle other issues in preparation for international competitions, and there is also an urgent need to implement checked swing video reviews quickly."
"There have been times when a player did not swing, but a swing call was made; however, it would be good to handle this fairly. It would be best to do this quickly without needing to confront the umpires or go out to protest," he said.
The KBO has begun installing dedicated cameras for checked swing reviews on the left and right sides of the batter's box at stadiums where the Futures League is held this year. However, it has not yet been decided when this will be implemented in the first team.
