Electric vehicles will provide support for the domestic cycling competition for the first time.
Premium Swedish electric vehicle Polestar announced on the 27th that it will supply 20 Polestar vehicles to support the competitor team and operations for the 'Tour de Gyeongnam 2025,' which will open on June 4.
The 'Tour de Gyeongnam 2025' is an International Cycling Union (UCI) sanctioned international road cycling competition held for the first time in six years since the Tour de Korea 2019. Elite cyclists from both domestic and international backgrounds will compete over five days on the southern coast, starting from Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, from June 4 to 8, passing through Geoje, Sacheon, and Namhae to arrive in Changwon, covering a total distance of 553 km.
Polestar Korea noted, "We are providing 16 'Polestar 4' vehicles as the 'team car' for each team participating in this competition. The team car is a vehicle designed to support athletes in achieving optimal performance during the race and will act as a hidden supporter on-site."
The Polestar 4 provided as team cars in the Tour de Gyeongnam 2025 is optimized for supporting cycling competitions. According to Polestar Korea, it boasts sporty driving performance and excellent interior space utilization.
The Polestar 4 features a powerful acceleration performance with a zero to sixty miles per hour time of 3.8 seconds and stable handling, sufficient to keep up with the fast pace of the competition. Additionally, its wide vehicle width allows for the suitable loading of two spare bicycles on the roof. When the rear seat is folded down, the trunk can accommodate additional spare bicycles, wheel sets, and supplies.
Furthermore, the noise-free and vibration-free electric powertrain is expected to help maintain the team's condition and improve focus during long-distance travel. Polestar Korea will also provide four units of the premium mid-sized electric sedan 'Polestar 2' for operational support beyond the team cars.
