LG Twins, in collaboration with Save the Children, is supporting vulnerable children in the country.
LG announced on the 26th that 'Save the Children Day' will be held during the home games against Hanwha Eagles at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium from May 27 to 29, in partnership with the global child rights organization Save the Children. This event was organized as part of a social contribution agreement aimed at promoting children's rights and supporting vulnerable children in the country. 'Save the Children Day' is a social contribution campaign by LG Twins that has continued annually since 2023, marking its third year this year.
During the event, a variety of experiential programs will be conducted at the Save the Children promotional booth set up next to the central ticket office at Jamsil Baseball Stadium for promoting the children’s rights campaign. Visitors will have access to many fun activities such as cornhole games and photo zones, and those who complete all the missions of the 'Red Team' campaign, aimed at 'saving newborn lives,' will receive specially made merchandise.
'The Red Team' is a campaign to protect newborns at risk from hypothermia, and Save the Children has saved countless lives through its 'Knit for Babies' campaign over the past 15 years. This campaign aims to improve the reality where mothers in poverty-stricken areas around the world do not receive proper medical care and is being promoted under the motto of 'Saving one newborn a year.'
The LG Twins players will also join this campaign. Pitcher Im Chan-kyu will donate 200,000 won for each victory in the season, while outfielder Hong Chang-ki will contribute 20,000 won for each time on base. Additionally, throughout the three days, the LG Twins players will wear uniforms, hats, and helmets with 'Save the Children' patches.
'Save the Children Day' will also feature a special ceremonial first pitch event.
On the first day of the event, May 27, Gaeul, a member of the popular girl group IVE, will serve as the ceremonial first pitcher. Gaeul, who debuted in 2021 with IVE, is noted for her unique timbre and performance, having recently achieved notable popularity by winning 15 music show awards with the pre-release track 'Rebel Heart' from the newly released album IVE EMPATHY. Gaeul expressed, "I am honored to be assigned to pitch in support of the LG Twins' victory. I am nervous as it is my first pitch since debut, but I will prepare hard to convey good energy. Go LG Twins!"
On the second day, May 28, Kim Si-yoon, a child representative at the 2024 Korea Children’s Assembly in Seoul, will throw the first pitch, while Save the Children CEO Jeong Tae-young will take on the ceremonial first hit. CEO Jeong said, "It is very meaningful to be celebrating Save the Children Day with LG Twins for the third year. I deeply appreciate the club, the players, and the fans for sincerely participating in creating a society where children's rights are respected."
On the last day of the event, May 29, Nam Gung-in, a representative of Save the Children, an emergency medicine specialist, and an initial member of the 'Red Team,' will serve as the first pitcher. He stated, "It is an honor to pitch on behalf of Save the Children. In the month of May, please pay more attention and love to child protection."
Through this social contribution activity, LG Twins aims to join the positive change for 'a safe and happy life for all children' with fans and intends to raise awareness about children's rights through the event, providing meaningful opportunities for more attention and support.
