LG Twins pitcher Song Seung-gi secured two wins in a week. He is among the top five native pitchers in both wins and earned run average in the league. He continues to perform at a level equivalent to a top starter, beyond the strongest five starters.

On the 25th, Song Seung-gi appeared as a starting pitcher in the game against the SSG Landers at Incheon SSG Landers Field.

Having won against Lotte on the 20th, allowing three runs over five innings, Song Seung-gi made his first start after taking four days of rest. This was also his first time pitching twice in a week (Tuesday-Sunday). He pitched twice in a week, securing victories in both.

Song Seung-gi became the winning pitcher of the season after throwing six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits, three walks, and striking out nine without allowing any runs. He set a personal record for most strikeouts in a single game (9). Song threw 108 pitches, focusing on a powerful fastball that reached up to 148 km/h (61 pitches), with 25 sliders, 12 change-ups, 6 curves, and 2 forkballs.

It was a tight pitching duel until mid-game. The LG lineup could not capitalize on SSG's substitute starter Jeon Young-jun until the fourth inning. Despite allowing one infield hit after two outs in the first inning, Song Seung-gi ended the second and third innings with three outs. In the fourth inning, after giving up two walks, he faced a crisis with two outs and runners on first and second base but struck out Lee Ji-young with a fastball (147 km/h) on the low outside corner of the ABS zone on a 2-ball-2-strike count.

The LG lineup provided support by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Even in a crisis in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading 4-0, he broke through with a strikeout. He struck out the lead-off hitter Choi Ji-hoon and allowed Jung Jun-jae to reach base on a walk. He struck out Park Seong-han on three pitches (147 km/h fastball).

After giving up a double to Go Myung-jun that hit the left field fence, he faced a crisis with two outs and runners on second and third. One hit could change the momentum of the game. He struck out Han Yoo-seom, who had hit a walk-off single the previous day, with a high-pat fastball (147 km/h) on a full count.

He had thrown 91 pitches by the sixth inning, but he took the mound again in the seventh. The LG bullpen was resting, with only Kim Jin-sung being unavailable for finishing duty. Song Seung-gi allowed a lead-off infield hit to Lee Ji-young but struck out Ahn Sang-hyun on the sixth pitch with a high fastball (147 km/h) and also struck out Chae Hyun-woo on the fifth pitch with a high fastball (147 km/h). He was replaced by the bullpen's Kim Young-woo with two outs and one runner on base. Kim Young-woo completed the seventh inning without allowing a run.

After the game, Song Seung-gi said, "I tried to pitch aggressively as the coach said, and because I got aggressive and made results come out quickly, I think I set the record for most strikeouts."

This season, he has appeared in 10 games (57⅓ innings), recording 5 wins and 3 losses with an earned run average of 2.83. He has five quality starts (QS) and has achieved four scoreless outings among those QS. His earned run average ranks 11th in the league and 5th among native pitchers. He ranks fifth after Samsung's Won Tae-in (2.47), KT's Song Hyung-jun (2.47), LG's Lim Chan-kyu (2.56), and KT's Oh Won-seok (2.62). He is tied for 9th in wins in the league. Among native pitchers, he follows Lotte's Park Se-woong (8 wins and 2 losses), Lim Chan-kyu (7 wins and 1 loss), and Oh Won-seok (6 wins and 2 losses). He is among the best five starters in the league.

Song Seung-gi qualifies for the Rookie of the Year award. He noted, "People around me talk about it, but honestly, I don't have any big aspirations. I believe that if I do well, the rewards will come, so I'm not paying attention to it." He added, "My goal is to just go through the innings while allowing minimal runs, so we don't have to go into a bullpen battle."

Two months into the season and having pitched in 10 games, Song Seung-gi said, "I think I am less tense than at the beginning of the season. I feel like I can think a bit more on the mound," and added, "I just hope to maintain my earned run average until the end."

Song Seung-gi, who joined LG in the second round of the 2021 rookie draft at 87th overall, had pitched a total of 9⅓ innings until last year. He returned after completing his service in the military in November of last year, and manager Youm Kyoung-youb selected him as a fifth starter. Last year, he pitched in 20 games (104⅔ innings) with a record of 11 wins and 4 losses, an earned run average of 2.41, and 121 strikeouts, winning the three crowns in the Futures League for wins, earned run average, and strikeouts.
