News has emerged that Tottenham plans to firmly block the transfer of 'captain' Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur).

The British local media outlet 'Hotsper HQ' reported on the 26th (Korea time) that "Tottenham will not accept any proposals for Son Heung-min during this summer transfer window. They plan to continue together until next season."

Tottenham believes Son Heung-min's wealth of experience will positively contribute in the upcoming season's UEFA Champions League (UCL).

'Hotsper HQ' emphasized that "contrary to recent rumors that Tottenham would send Son Heung-min away and bring in younger players, the club still considers Son Heung-min a core resource."

Additionally, it was noted that "Tottenham is also considering acquiring a new star player who can coordinate with Son Heung-min. There is a possibility of selling defender Cristian Romero to raise funds."

Although there is an evaluation that Son Heung-min did not meet expectations this season, there is also a perspective that he remains an influential leader.

In the 2024-2025 season, Son Heung-min made 30 league appearances, recording 7 goals and 9 assists. He could not participate in the final 38th round against Brighton on the 26th due to a foot injury, ending his streak of single-season league double-digit goals over the past eight seasons, but he won his first career trophy by defeating Manchester United (Man U) on the 22nd to claim the UEFA Europa League (UEL) title.

Tottenham finished 17th in the league but will participate in the next season's UCL as the UEL champions.

Some claim that it is now time for Son Heung-min, who has achieved everything at Tottenham, to leave, predicting summer as the right time.

The British media outlet 'Guardian' named 10 players likely to leave the team on the 24th, mentioning Son Heung-min second. The outlet analyzed, "There is no more appropriate time for separation between Son Heung-min and Tottenham than this summer," adding, "Son Heung-min, having brought Tottenham its first trophy since 2008, has established himself as a club legend. It is now time to leave. The contract extension last January seems likely a strategy to secure revenue from a transfer."

Son Heung-min extended his contract with Tottenham until June 2026 with a one-year extension option activated in January of this year. For Tottenham, this summer presents the last opportunity to sell Son Heung-min for a transfer fee. If the transfer does not materialize, he may be allowed to leave as a free agent next summer.

However, 'Hotsper HQ' emphasized that Tottenham seems to prefer to continue with Son Heung-min, noting that the atmosphere has changed dramatically following the UEL victory.

Currently, only a few players in the Tottenham squad, including Son Heung-min and Ben Davies, have experience in the UCL. From Tottenham's perspective, Son Heung-min's experience is invaluable.
