Tottenham Hotspur seems to be solidifying its direction to fully acquire Matthijs Tel (20), who is currently on loan from Bayern Munich. The club already has a buyout clause, but is negotiating under more realistic conditions.
The British outlet 'Tribuna' reported on the 25th (Korean time) that "Tottenham has opened negotiations with Bayern for the full acquisition of Matthijs Tel, and the transfer is currently in the imminent stage."
Tel has shown remarkable growth while playing on loan at Tottenham during the second half of the 2024-2025 season. Evaluated as a versatile forward with great speed and powerful shooting ability, Tel has developed within Bayern Munich's first team at a young age, continuing to showcase his talents.
Primarily penetrating from the left flank to enjoy right-footed shots, the fact that he can utilize both feet is seen as a threatening advantage, much like Heung-min Son. However, evaluations indicate that improvements are needed in post-play, dribbling in on-the-ball situations, and linking up with teammates.
According to Tribuna's report, Tottenham holds the full acquisition option stated in Tel's contract for €60 million (approximately 93.3 billion won). However, the club is negotiating to lower the transfer fee to around €40 million (approximately 62.2 billion won), which is below this amount. Tottenham believes that Bayern is likely to accept this.
Under the management of Ange Postecoglou, Tel has quickly solidified his position in the squad, recognized for his explosive breakthroughs and scoring ability. The club plans to develop him as a key resource to replace Heung-min Son in the attack.
Tribuna also reported that Chairman Daniel Levy is directly involved in this acquisition. Chairman Levy highly values Tel and is actively negotiating to lower the transfer fee. This is interpreted as Tottenham's clear strategy to strengthen its attacking lineup in preparation for next season.
