'Captain' Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham) is in an atmosphere where his remaining with the team is being supported.

British media outlet 'Hotspur HQ' reported on the 26th (Korea time) that “Tottenham plans not to accept any offers for Son Heung-min during this summer's transfer market and aims to keep him until next season.”

Tottenham sees Son Heung-min’s extensive experience as an important asset on the European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League (UCL) stage for the 2024-2025 season. Instead of selling him this summer, they classify him as a key resource for next season.

'Hotspur HQ' noted that “contrary to recent suggestions regarding the sale of Son Heung-min, the club still views him as a central figure.” It further explained, “They are also considering bringing in star players who can play alongside Son Heung-min, and they are keeping the possibility of defender Cristian Romero's transfer open as a means of raising funds for this purpose.”

Son Heung-min played in 30 league matches this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 9 assists. He missed the final match of the season against Brighton on the 26th due to a foot injury, halting his streak of scoring double digits in the league for eight consecutive seasons.

There were personal evaluations suggesting that he might be experiencing an 'aging curve', but as a captain who won a European competition trophy, he has once again been reestablished as an indispensable presence for Tottenham.

Son Heung-min lifted the UEFA Europa League (UEL) trophy on the 22nd after defeating Manchester United (Man U), achieving his first career title.

Tottenham acquired a long-awaited trophy for the first time in 17 years since 2008.

Some argue that Son Heung-min should leave while on a high note. The Guardian identified him as the second of ten players likely to be transferred on the 24th. The publication analyzed, “This summer might be the most appropriate time for Son Heung-min and Tottenham to part ways,” adding that “an extension of his contract could be a step to secure a transfer fee.”

Son Heung-min's contract with Tottenham was extended until June 2026 with the activation of a one-year extension option in January. From Tottenham's perspective, this summer represents essentially the last opportunity to sell Son Heung-min for a fair transfer fee. If a transfer fails, he could be available as a free agent next summer.

Tottenham appears to prefer keeping him rather than selling him immediately. With their UEL victory, they secured a UCL ticket for the next season, making 'living legend' Son Heung-min even more necessary. Currently, the only players on the Tottenham squad with UCL experience are Son Heung-min and Ben Davies.
