Professional baseball Samsung Lions infielder Ryu Ji-hyuk showcased his clutch ability, leading the team to a thrilling comeback victory.
Ryu had a standout performance on the 24th at Daegu Samsung Lions Park against the KIA Tigers, going 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

His impressive focus shone through at every critical moment. After hitting a 2-RBI double that brought all runners home in the 3rd inning with two outs while trailing 0-3, he set the stage for a big inning with a single to center field in the 8th inning with one out and runners on first and second, leading to a 4-4 tie. Samsung ultimately celebrated an 8-4 comeback victory.

After two outs in the 8th inning, 'new closer' Lee Ho-sung took the mound and pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts to become the winning pitcher. Kim Sung-yoon, batting second as the center fielder, led the offense with 2 RBIs, including a key 2-RBI double in the 8th, going 2 for 4.

After the game, Ryu Ji-hyuk met with reporters and said, "It was not an easy game, but I am happy we won," with a big smile. He reflected on his clutch double in the 3rd inning with two outs and runners on all bases, stating, "I just wanted to be comfortable. I aimed to make contact and produce a playable ball in play."

Ryu also noted, "Honestly, I was just thinking about the fastball going into the 8th, but the opposing pitcher's fastball was good. Somehow, a breaking ball came in, and I made solid contact."

Although the team's overall fatigue increased after two consecutive close games, Ryu said, "We all know it’s tough, but we vow to focus more on the field. I’m glad it led to a good result today."

The game against KIA held special significance for Ryu Ji-hyuk. KIA is the team he once played for and the one that caused him the pain of being the runner-up in last year's Korean Series.

He revealed, "I have a particularly strong desire not to lose whenever I face KIA. Thinking about last year’s Korean Series, to be honest, I still feel upset. I try not to show those feelings on the field, but maybe that’s why my celebrations were a bit more intense."

Focus, responsibility, and competitiveness all come into play. On this day, Ryu Ji-hyuk quietly but clearly proved his presence at every critical moment.
