KIA Tigers' 'living legend' Choi Hyung-woo (outfielder) is once again challenging himself to set a significant record. He is just 4 hits away from becoming the third player in history to achieve 2,500 hits.

Choi Hyung-woo has played in 46 games this season and has maintained an impressive hitting ability with 54 hits. Especially in May, his batting has peaked, recording six multi-hit games in the last 10 games.

Currently, Choi Hyung-woo leads the KBO League in total doubles and runs batted in (RBI), and he is in a fierce battle for the top position in the institutional sector of hits with Choi Jeong (S). If he achieves the record of 2,500 hits, it will add another golden milestone to the history of the KBO League.

Choi Hyung-woo, who made his debut on Oct. 14, 2002, recorded his first hit on Oct. 18, 2002, against Lotte at Sajik Stadium. He began accumulating hits seriously in the 2008 season, recording 106 hits in 126 games. From the 2008 season to the 2020 season, he recorded three-digit hits for 13 consecutive seasons, and in particular, he won the KBO hitting award in the 2016 season with a personal best of 195 hits.

Since starting his active career in the KBO League in the 2008 season, Choi Hyung-woo has recorded over 100 hits in all but one season up to last season, boasting an average of about 144 hits per season during this period. If he records over 100 hits this season, he will achieve three-digit hits for a total of 17 seasons.

The KBO plans to award a memorial trophy to Choi Hyung-woo if he achieves 2,500 hits in accordance with the recognition regulations.
