Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, is quite angry with Liverpool fans.
Klopp's Liverpool, after resigning at the end of last season, achieved Premier League victory in their first season under manager Arne Slot this season. Liverpool dominated the league with an overwhelming record of 25 wins, 8 draws, and 4 losses.
On the 12th, Liverpool drew 2-2 against Arsenal at their home ground, Anfield. Here, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose transfer to Real Madrid has been confirmed, faced jeers from home fans.
Klopp criticized Liverpool supporters about the scene. Klopp noted, "I was watching the game. After seeing Trent being jeered, I turned off the TV within 10 seconds. You might call me old-fashioned, but honestly, I was very disappointed."
Klopp continued, "I don’t want to comment on the supporters’ thoughts. However, that scene was wrong. It does not mean I want fans to be disappointed and angry. But fans should not forget what Trent has contributed to the team."
Trent, who is a product of Liverpool's youth system from 2004 to 2016, has been a one-club man, playing only for Liverpool since his professional debut in 2016. Fans were disappointed that he accepted Real Madrid's offer instead of retiring at Liverpool.
Klopp stated, "Trent is a player who has played for Liverpool for nearly 20 years. He does not deserve to be treated like that. If he decided to go to the team he first wanted to go to and is criticized for it, then you are not a true Liverpool fan. The target for anger should be the club's leadership for not being able to keep him. I was disappointed with Liverpool fans' reactions."
