The professional baseball team SSG Landers has parted ways early with foreign hitter Ryan McBroom (33), who was brought in as an injury replacement.

SSG announced ahead of the match against the LG Twins in the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' held on 23rd at Incheon SSG Landers Field, "Ryan McBroom bid farewell to the team."

McBroom signed a contract with SSG on the 20th of last month for $75,000 (about 100 million won) as an injury replacement for Guillermo Heredia. Debuting in a game against Kiwoom on April 25, McBroom caught attention by hitting a run-scoring single, and he performed well with three home runs in his first nine games. However, his batting pace drastically declined afterward, resulting in a batting average of .230 over 22 games (15 hits in 74 at-bats) with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs, and 8 runs scored, leading to an OPS of .668.

SSG did not use McBroom after the game against Doosan on the 20th. As existing players began to perform better than McBroom and injured players started returning, SSG ultimately decided to release McBroom before the contract period ended. SSG reported, "The team came out to the field to warmly encourage McBroom in his final moments, and presented him with a bat (for fielders) and a helmet (for pitchers) signed by all team members as a token of gratitude. After the farewell, they shared a bittersweet goodbye with hugs, including team captain Kim Kwang-hyun and all players."

McBroom expressed, "Although it was a short time, I am really thankful for the warm treatment as a teammate and family. It was an unforgettable and valuable experience, and I will cherish those moments for a lifetime. I will continue to watch over and support you all. Thank you and I love you."

SSG created a starting lineup of Choi Ji-hoon (center fielder), Park Seong-han (shortstop), Choi Jeong (third baseman), Ko Myung-jun (first baseman), Han Yoo-seom (designated hitter), Ahn Sang-hyun (second baseman), Jo Hyung-woo (catcher), Oh Tae-gon (right fielder), and Chae Hyun-woo (left fielder). The starting pitcher is Mitch White. Lee Ji-young was registered on the first-team roster, while McBroom was removed.

SSG manager Lee Seung-yong said in an interview before the game, "It hurts my heart. After much deliberation, I came to the conclusion of what would maximize the team's potential." He explained the decision to release McBroom, saying, "We brought him in based on his batting, but he didn’t get a single hit last week. With injured players returning, I wondered if it was right to keep waiting. Today, Lee Ji-young has returned and Oh Tae-gon has also come up. Since Choi Jun-woo and Chae Hyun-woo are both performing well, I decided it would be better to utilize our current players."

Heredia is expected to return as soon as he is able. Manager Lee Seung-yong stated, "Heredia will go to the second team next week to get in shape, and he is scheduled to return to the first team on Tuesday (June 3)."
