"Everyone increased efficiency by contributing to the attack."
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will face Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final for the 2024-2025 season, held on June 1 (Korean time) in Munich, Germany. Having already secured the French Ligue 1 title, PSG will challenge for the top of Europe after competing against Stade de Reims in the Coupe de France final on the 25th. It is a fateful day with the possibility of a treble.
In a press conference released on the PSG official website on the 22nd, manager Luis Enrique noted, "The most important thing while preparing for the final is to enjoy it. We are on the verge of the goal we dreamed of at the beginning of the season. I told the players to seize this opportunity with ambition."
He added, "We have endured well throughout this season despite the ups and downs. Both the Coupe de France final and the Champions League final are special matches. Not everyone often gets a chance to stand on such stages. I want to leave a mark in PSG history by performing at our best."
He also expressed caution about Inter Milan, the opponent in the Champions League final. "Inter is a team with strong defense and various tactical options. Given that they have defeated Bayern Munich and Barcelona to reach this point, they are an opponent we must respect. Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez are threatening, and goalkeeper Jan Sommer is also experienced," he said, maintaining his caution.
PSG is no slouch either. Manager Enrique expressed pride, saying, "We have also invested a lot to get to this point. We are a team with excellent organization in both defense and attack. This season, 18 players have scored in the league, and our total goals are higher than last year. All attackers are dedicated to defense, and I am very satisfied with that aspect."
He also explained, "The biggest turning point of the season was January. Since then, our decisiveness and confidence have improved, and the players' movements and positioning have also been enhanced. All this has been made possible by the players' dedication and the support from our fans."
PSG has yet to experience victory in the Champions League. This final is a challenge for the club's first Champions League trophy in its history.
Meanwhile, regarding this achievement, manager Enrique mentioned Kylian Mbappé, who has departed the team. He stated, "We have already scored more goals than last season. And we have recorded more assists, with all players involved in the attack," adding, "For our outstanding record, all players on the pitch contribute to the attack and become one."
In short, the current PSG is stronger than last season's PSG that relied on Mbappé. Manager Enrique noted, "It is satisfying that we are no longer dependent on a specific player (Mbappé). Of course, we were a strong team that reached the semifinals of the UCL last season," but emphasized, "Still, this season has become even stronger after such a good player left. This has increased efficiency through everyone's involvement in the attack."
