Recently, Yoo Song-kyu (29, Our House Insurance Doctor) succeeded in weight loss and finished the second round of the 'KOLON 67th Korean Open Golf Championship' with a score of 4 under par, positioning himself in the top rankings.

The 'KOLON 67th Korean Open Golf Championship,' held at the Raviebel Country Club Dunes Course (par 71/7426 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, is a tournament for the Korean men's national title with a total prize pool of 1.4 billion won, and the winner's prize amounts to 500 million won.

Yoo Song-kyu started the second round in the morning group on the 23rd. While most players struggled with the green approach, Yoo Song-kyu succeeded in reducing his score by 4 with 5 birdies and 1 bogey.

Yoo Song-kyu finished the second round with outstanding performance and noted, 'Yesterday, I thought I should play confidently, and today, I decided to play safely. The fairways are quite narrow, so I was focused on just keeping the fairway.'

As Yoo Song-kyu mentioned, the Raviebel Dunes Course is famous for its narrow fairways. This is also the reason why top domestic players find it challenging. Yoo Song-kyu is skillfully tackling such a course.

He explained the reason, saying, 'I recently played the Korean Open qualifiers on this course about three times, and every time, it seemed to suit me well. It's difficult, but there is a surprisingly comfortable feeling. The old course was just very tough.'

Maintaining the fairway was also a top priority for Yoo Song-kyu. In addition, the green approach played a significant role. 'First of all, I kept the fairway well. This course has quite tricky areas around the greens. If you miss the green, it gets very difficult. Even for long putts, I think it’s important to get on the green. Instead of aiming directly for the pin, the plan was to get it on the green and finish with two putts,' he said.

Weight loss is a noticeable change in appearance.

Yoo Song-kyu stated, 'In 2021, I weighed about 137 kg, but recently, it is around 100 kg. I thought I needed to lose weight after injuring my ankle during a tournament. I controlled my diet by not eating anything after 6 p.m., and after losing weight, the ankle pain disappeared, and my physical condition improved. At first, dieting was tough, but as I kept going, I was able to endure it.'

He said that weight loss also helped improve his performance.

Yoo Song-kyu said, 'Thanks to that, my backswing has become more comfortable. I also started taking lessons from Pro Kim Ki-hwan (Logic Academy). I always discussed my swing over the phone after games. My main shot shape was a fade, but I am honing a straight shot shape.' Yoo Song-kyu expressed his determination to approach the remaining rounds with the same mindset as the first and second rounds, without being greedy.
