Gareth Bale (36) drew attention by admitting there is something he was unable to achieve despite his glamorous football career.
Bale has accumulated a total of 19 trophies while playing for Southampton, Tottenham, and Real Madrid. Among them are five UEFA Champions League victories.
As a member of the Wales national team, Bale also holds the record for the most appearances for his country with 111 caps. He is regarded as one of the best wingers, having scored a total of 225 goals.
However, it seems there are still regrets for Bale. In an interview with British 'Talksport' on the 23rd (Korea time), he noted, "It has been a dream of mine to score from the halfway line since before," adding, "But in the end, I couldn’t do it."
On the 22nd, Bale, who also served as a commentator for the 2024-2025 Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United, expressed deep regret, saying, "I tried it once here (at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain), but I hit the post."
In fact, during the match against Athletic Bilbao in March 2015, when he was wearing a Real Madrid jersey, Bale attempted a long-range shot near the halfway line. However, it hit the post and didn’t result in a goal, with the match ending in a 0-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao.
Bale stated that his best goal was the overhead kick he scored against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final. He recalled, "Apart from the match situation, technically, the overhead kick is always a beautiful goal."
Bale also confessed to wanting to experience receiving a red card on purpose. He laughed, saying, "Getting a red card was also one of my bucket list items. I have been sent off a few times, and that was one of the experiences I wanted to have."
During his active career, Bale received a total of three red cards. The first red card came in 2008 during his time at Tottenham in a match against Stoke City. After that, he transferred to Real Madrid, where he received two more red cards.
