Jürgen Klopp, 58, takes over as the new head coach of AS Roma, marking a new chapter in his coaching career.

Italian media outlet 'Roma Press' reported on the 20th (Korean time) that 'AS Roma has reached an agreement with coach Klopp. This decision has finally been realized after long preparations,' citing 'La Stampa.'

Klopp stepped down from his position as Liverpool's manager at the end of the 2023-2024 season. He previously seemed set to leave the field after taking on a role overseeing the global football institutional sector at Red Bull, but chose an unexpected path. He will succeed Claudio Ranieri as the head of AS Roma.

The media noted, "Klopp had contacted other teams first, but after that project fell through, he decided on Roma." The timing of the decision was also specifically reported. At 10:57 p.m. local time on May 18, coach Klopp sent an 'OK' sign to Chairman Dan Friedkin.

The appointment of coach Klopp is not just a simple coaching staff change. Roma is preparing for a major overhaul, reorganizing the entire squad. Many player transfers and releases are expected, which Klopp plans to directly oversee.

An unusual point is that former coach Ranieri will not completely step down. The media explained, "Ranieri is likely to remain in the new system as a senior advisor to assist coach Klopp."

Klopp has found success with his unique tactics and leadership in the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League. Now he is embarking on another challenge in Serie A.

Through world-renowned coach Klopp, Roma aims to transform the club's identity and strive for a new leap.

Klopp, a German national, began his coaching career at Mainz. After three attempts, he led the second-division Mainz to the first division for the first time in its 99-year history. However, after relegation in the 2006-2007 season, he resigned after failing to achieve promotion in the 2007-2008 season.

From 2008, he led Borussia Dortmund, solidifying his status as a coach. Klopp led Dortmund to the Bundesliga title in the 2010-2011 season after 9 years. He achieved back-to-back league titles in the 2011-2012 season. After securing a total of five trophy victories, he moved to Liverpool in 2015.

At Liverpool, Klopp experienced his prime. After taking charge during the 2015-2016 season, he led them to victory in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in the 2018-2019 season. In the 2019-2020 season, he brought Liverpool to the top of the English Premier League (EPL) for the first time in 30 years. He also secured the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Klopp parted ways with Liverpool after the end of last season.
