It seems that Ruben Amorim (40), the manager, considered stepping down from the position at Manchester United (Man U) in January.
Global media outlet ESPN reported on the 20th (Korean time) that Amorim was shocked by the severe slump at Man U during his early days as manager and seriously considered resigning last January.
Amorim took office as manager of Man U on Nov. 11 last year, succeeding Erik ten Hag. However, at that time, Man U had managed only 1 win in 8 matches.
In particular, it is known that Amorim lost his temper and threw a TV in the locker room immediately after losing 1-3 to Brighton at home on Jan. 19.
According to the article, Amorim felt disillusioned with the club's management style after that match and seriously considered resigning. He thought about stepping down just two months after taking office at Man U. However, under persuasion from his close aides, he withdrew his resignation decision.
In particular, it was reported that Amorim changed his mind after reaffirming the full confidence of the Man U leadership, including CEO Omar Berrada and owner Jim Ratcliffe, as well as the Ineos Group.
In response, the British newspaper The Sun stated, "While January was indeed a tough time, there has never been any internal discussion regarding Amorim's resignation."
Amorim's Man U will face Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final on the 22nd at 4 a.m. Regardless of the result of this match, he is expected to remain in charge of Man U for the next season.
Man U will initiate a massive squad reinforcement this summer for Amorim. Regardless of the result against Tottenham, the club is expected to take an active approach in the transfer market.
