Jurgen Klopp (58) will begin a new challenge in Rome, the capital of Italy.
'Roma Press' reported on the 20th (Korea time) citing the influential Italian outlet 'La Stampa', "AS Roma has already reached an agreement with Jurgen Klopp. This decision has been in preparation for a long time and has finally come to fruition."
Klopp stepped down from his role at Liverpool at the end of last season. He seemed to temporarily step away from leadership by taking the position of head of the institutional sector at Red Bull, but his next destination was entirely unexpected—Rome. He has completed preparations to lead the team as the successor to Claudio Ranieri.
The media noted, "Klopp had originally made a commitment to another team where a change of ownership was in progress, but when that project fell through, he chose Rome without hesitation,” and added, “At 10:57 p.m. local time on May 18, Klopp sent an 'OK' sign to Dan Friedkin, the president of Roma,” providing a specific timeline.
AS Roma is not simply making changes to the coaching staff. With Klopp's appointment, a 'major overhaul' of the entire squad is expected.
Roma Press explained, "Numerous transfers and releases of players have been announced, and Klopp will lead this process directly. Interestingly, Ranieri will not completely step down. He is expected to remain in the new structure as a 'senior advisor' supporting Klopp."
It remains to be seen what style of football Klopp, who has achieved success with his own identity in Germany and England, will showcase in Serie A, particularly in Rome. However, one thing is clear: Rome is once again seeking 'real innovation' through a change in leadership.
