It is a season that will never be forgotten. Harry Kane (32, Bayern Munich) has lifted his first-ever championship trophy and secured the Bundesliga top scorer title for the second consecutive season.
The Bundesliga announced on the 18th (Korea time) through their official website that "Kane finished the 2024-2025 season with a final tally of 26 goals and won the 'kicker' Torjägerkanone awarded to the season's top scorer in the Bundesliga for the second time in a row."
Additionally, the Bundesliga noted, "Kane came off the bench to score in the 4-0 victory against Hoffenheim, concluding the season. He recorded an average of one goal every 92 minutes in 31 Bundesliga matches. Kane is now the seventh player in Bundesliga history to win the top scorer title for two consecutive seasons." Kane is the first to win the Bundesliga top scorer title in his debut season and for two consecutive years.
It was a comfortable ascent to the top scorer title. Kane entered the final match with 25 goals and pulled ahead in the race for the top scorer early on, not starting in the last game against Hoffenheim. After coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute, he added one more goal in the closing stages to finish the season.
Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen) and Sébastien Haller (Borussia Dortmund) both scored 21 goals, tying for second place behind Kane. Jonathan Burkhardt (Mainz) with 18 goals and Tim Klein-Dienst (Borussia Mönchengladbach) with 16 goals followed.
Kane finally achieved his first career title this season, breaking a long-standing drought. He is recognized as a world-class striker, but has had little success in terms of titles. He finished second numerous times with both Tottenham and the England national team, and last season, Bayern broke their streak of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.
Because of this, Kane wanted the championship more than anyone else. In February, he said through Bild, "Many people have pointed out that I still have not won a title in my career. I think it would be good to silence some of them," affirming his determination to win.
Kane, who realized his dream after numerous ups and downs, showcased his talent this season with 25 goals and 7 assists in 30 league matches, playing a crucial role in Bayern's championship. As a result, he finally lifted a trophy for the first time in 14 years since making his professional debut in 2011 with Tottenham.
Kane was happier than anyone after confirming his first-ever championship. He uploaded numerous videos on social media, including one celebrating with his teammates over beers and another of him singing the famous song "We Are the Champions" by the British band Queen. He also celebrated by popping champagne with Eric Dier, a longtime teammate from his Tottenham days.
After releasing his frustration, Kane roared while lifting the trophy high during the championship ceremony. He was soaked from head to toe due to his teammates' beer shower but wore a beaming smile.
Now with the Bundesliga top scorer title in hand, Kane said, "I always strive to improve, but it would have been impossible without my teammates. I am having a great time. Tomorrow will definitely be fun. It will be the first time celebrating the championship with the fans from our city. I am really looking forward to it. I hope we can have a great time together. It has been a good season for various reasons," expressing his thoughts.
The Bundesliga highlighted, "Kane missed just three league matches this season. He scored multiple goals in more than six matches, helping Bayern reclaim the title with two matches remaining in the season. Currently, Kane has played 63 matches in the Bundesliga, scoring 62 goals, including 82 goals in 92 appearances while wearing Bayern's jersey."
Furthermore, it added that "England national team captain Kane is expected to add to his scoring record in June, before starting his third season at Bayern. He is set to travel to the U.S. to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup. Kane's contract with the 'German giant' Bayern runs until June 30, 2027."
Meanwhile, this top scorer title marks Kane's fifth league top scorer title in his career. He previously won the Premier League top scorer title three times during his time at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2020-2021 seasons.
Kane also wished for his former team Tottenham to break their title drought. Tottenham will face Premier League rival Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) final on the 22nd at Estadio San Mamés in Bilbao, Spain. Despite finishing 17th with the worst results in the Premier League, a win in this match could see them lift a trophy for the first time in 17 years since winning the League Cup in the 2007-2008 season.
Kane said, "I sincerely congratulate Tottenham for reaching the final. It's clear that they had a tough season, but merely getting to the UEL final is a tremendous achievement. It's never easy to overcome the opposing teams. I hope Tottenham wins and I will be watching. I hope they can achieve a proud victory. If they give their best to win, everyone will be happy," wishing them good luck.
For Son Heung-min, who still has no career titles, this is also an opportunity to break his own drought. Kane has inspired his 'close friend' Son Heung-min with the spirit of victory. After Son was the first to send a congratulatory message for the Bundesliga title, Kane reportedly made a video call to send his supportive message. He said, "I was so happy to see Kane so delighted. He is such a close friend and a teammate with whom I have achieved a lot; it felt like family. Receiving that good energy, I believe we can achieve good results with Kane's support."
