Kim Yeon-koung, the 'queen of volleyball,' who will retire at the end of the 2024-2025 season, spent meaningful time with global stars.
On the 17th, the 'KYK Invitational 2025' was held at Incheon Samsan World Gymnasium. The World All-Stars faced off against the Korean women's volleyball team. The result was a victory for the World All-Stars team, 80-59. The match was played in four sets, with the team that first scored a total of 80 points winning, earning 20 points per set.
Kim Yeon-koung participated as an outside hitter on the World All-Stars team. She was joined by Natalia Goncharova (Russia), Natalia Pereira (Brazil), Pleumjit Thinkaow (Thailand), Marit Groos, Laura Dijkema (both Netherlands), Eda Erdem, Melihah Dikken (both Türkiye), Jordan Larson, Kelsey Robinson, and Chiaka Oguobogu (all from the U.S.), among other global stars.
Although the result ended in a victory for the World All-Stars, it became a time of unity as everyone gathered to take commemorative photos after the game. They were able to feel each other's skills and it was a good opportunity for the Korean team to learn a thing or two. After the game, the World All-Stars players greeted Korean fans.
Brazil's Natalia Pereira said, "It's great to be in a gym full of fans. I came again this year, just like last year, and I appreciate the support." She added, "I hope to see everyone again tomorrow."
Kelsey Robinson from the U.S. praised Kim Yeon-koung, stating, "In fact, I never had the opportunity to play on the same team as Kim Yeon-koung. I played against her, and she is an incredible player with an aura. She is a humble player who reminds everyone of the importance of being together."
Jordan Larson from the U.S. shared, "I have competed against Kim Yeon-koung and also played on the same team. She is an amazing player and a great person. It was an honor to be able to play together."
Koto Inoue from Japan expressed, "It was great to be with players active around the world," sharing her thoughts on participating in the 'KYK Invitational 2025.'
Kim Yeon-koung thanked the fans, saying, "I appreciate it," while adding, "Today is just a warm-up. Tomorrow, I will show a more wonderful game and performance."
