'Peace of Mind' Park Hyun-sung (29) has completed preparations for his UFC return after passing the weigh-in.
Park Hyun-sung, the winner of ROAD TO UFC Season 1 in the flyweight division (56.7 kg), weighed in at 56.9 kg at the weigh-in for 'UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Morales' held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the 17th (Korea time), meeting the allowed weight for flyweight regular bouts. His opponent, Carlos Hernandez (31, USA), passed the weigh-in at 57.2 kg.
Park Hyun-sung (9 wins) will face Hernandez (10 wins, 4 losses) in the second match on the undercard of 'UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Morales' at UFC Apex, located next to the UFC headquarters, on the 18th.
There was no more misfortune. Park Hyun-sung received notice last February that his opponent, Nyamzargal Tumennerel, could not make weight, even though he was almost at the required weight. Ultimately, the match was canceled as no compromise could be reached. Fortunately, this time his opponent, Hernandez, passed the weigh-in without issue.
He aims for a 10-fight winning streak. Park Hyun-sung is currently on a 9-fight win streak, with 8 consecutive finishes. He is evaluated as a highly skilled fighter excelling in both striking and grappling. In critical situations, true to his nickname 'Peace of Mind,' he maintains his composure and does not get excited, calmly severing his opponent's breath.
Park Hyun-sung noted regarding Hernandez, "He is a well-rounded fighter, but he isn’t one with a clear, unique style. I am better than him in every aspect," expressing confidence in his victory. Overseas bookmakers also rate Park Hyun-sung's chances of winning at about 63% higher.
Park Hyun-sung is a newlywed who married his girlfriend of six years at the end of March. They decided to go on their honeymoon at the end of the year and immediately began intense training after the wedding. He pledged, "I will achieve a 2-fight win streak in the UFC. I will definitely show it."
UFC welterweight (77.1 kg) No. 8 Gilbert Burns (38, Brazil) and No. 12 Michael Morales (25, Ecuador), who are participating in the main event, also successfully passed the weigh-in. Burns weighed in at 77.1 kg, while Morales registered 77.3 kg, meeting the allowed weight for welterweight regular bouts.
Morales is a top prospect in the welterweight division, currently on a 17-fight winning streak. He aims to break into the top 10 in the welterweight division with this victory. On the other hand, former title challenger Burns (22 wins, 8 losses) is on a 3-fight losing streak. He aims to stop the losing streak and re-enter the top 5. In the last undercard match of the day, 'Jaguar' Mateus Camilo (24, Brazil) also succeeded in the weigh-in, registering 70.3 kg for the lightweight division. His opponent, Gabe Green (32, USA), recorded 70 kg.
Camilo signed with UFC through Dana White's scouting program 'Looking for a Fight.' White personally recruited Camilo after watching the ZFN 02 event of Jung Chan-sung online.
The main card for 'UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Morales,' in which Park Hyun-sung is participating, will be broadcast live from 7:40 a.m. on May 18 on tvN SPORTS and TVING.
