Could former Everton manager Sean Dyche (54) be targeting the Manchester United (Man U) managerial position?
The British media outlet TalkSport reported on the 16th (Korean time) that Dyche appeared on the podcast "Stick to Football" and boasted, "If I were the manager of Man U, I would have secured more victories."
Manchester United, led by coach Ruben Amorim, is currently in 16th place in the Premier League this season. The team is currently on a seven-match winless streak and has a 24% win rate since Amorim took over.
The only way for Amorim to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League is for Manchester United to win the Europa League final against Tottenham on the 22nd. Otherwise, the pressure on Amorim could intensify.
Dyche stated, "Amorim will not change his tactics. If that is the case, then he needs to start winning quickly," adding, "Even by applying the basic 4-4-2 formation my way, we could have done better than now."
He also remarked, "This club has always been my dream team," emphasizing that it is not just because of the name 'Man U' but due to the club's global stature and scale, not hiding his desire for the Manchester United managerial position.
However, Dyche acknowledged that Amorim needs time. He said, "This is a time to instill his methods and philosophy. He can bring in the players he wants during the summer transfer window and finalize tactics in the preseason."
He continued, "But if there is no change in the early part of next season, then we need to make changes," and said, "If I were the manager, the critical timeline would be from the preseason to midway through the season. If there are no results by Christmas, most will feel that 'changes are needed.'"
When asked who he thought was "a person who would have been a better fit as Manchester United manager," Dyche replied, "It would be Gareth Southgate, the former England manager. The national team manager's position is very difficult. However, someone like Southgate, who has endured that pressure, would also have suited Manchester United well."
Dyche, who managed Watford, Burnley, and Everton, was dismissed last January, ending a two-year tenure with Everton. Following his departure, Everton appointed David Moyes as manager.
Meanwhile, TalkSport predicted that Amorim would remain in his position until next season, regardless of the outcome of the Europa League final against Tottenham. However, if the struggles continue after the preseason, it is analyzed that the club could consider making changes internally.
