Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) has once again claimed the club's Goal of the Year with a spectacular direct corner kick. This is already his fifth award.

Tottenham announced on the 16th (Korean time) through the club's official website that "Son Heung-min's incredible 'Olimpico (corner kick goal)' scored against Manchester United has been selected as the club's best goal of the season by the official supporters club."

Tottenham defeated Manchester United 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the League Cup (Carabao Cup) held last December. After a shootout that saw a total of 7 goals, Tottenham emerged as the victor.

It was not an easy game. Tottenham, backed by Dominic Solanke's multiple goals and Dejan Kulusevski's additional goal, quickly took a 3-0 lead. However, due to a mistake by goalkeeper Fraser Forster, they allowed Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo to score consecutively, reducing the deficit to 3-2.

With more than 20 minutes remaining, the hero who saved Tottenham was none other than Son Heung-min. He powerfully curled a corner kick from the left with his right foot, and the ball traced an incredible trajectory, passing the goalkeeper and shaking the net. It was Son Heung-min's 7th goal of the season, fending off Manchester United's fierce pursuit.

Afterwards, Tottenham conceded one goal to Jonny Evans during injury time and could not relax until the end. However, they managed to hold on to secure the victory.

Son Heung-min scored the winning goal directly from a corner kick. At the time, U.S. 'CBS Sports' marveled, saying, "Son Heung-min scored a crazy goal from a corner kick," and Tottenham fans were delighted, saying Son Heung-min had taken proper revenge on Lisandro Martinez, who had provoked him first.

Son Heung-min's Olimpico, which was also selected as the supporters' Tottenham Goal of the Year, was highlighted by Tottenham's comment: "Son Heung-min created a rare magical moment by placing the ball into the far corner past goalkeeper Altai Bayındır. At that time, the victory was one of the three wins against Manchester United this season."

This is the fifth time Son Heung-min has won Tottenham's Goal of the Season award. He won the club's Goal of the Year three consecutive times from the 2017-2018 season to the 2019-2020 season and also won in the 2022-2023 season. Notably, during the 2019-2020 season, he grabbed the Puskas Award with a 70-meter dribble goal against Burnley, placing him among the world's top scorers beyond Tottenham.

However, he missed out on his fourth Tottenham Player of the Year award. Instead, Lucas Bergvall, a midfielder born in 2006, was honored as Tottenham's Player of the Season. He has been named Player of the Year by the official Tottenham supporters, season ticket holders, and youth members, achieving a triple crown since his debut season.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min must shake the net of Manchester United once again. Tottenham will face Manchester United in the final of the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League (UEL) on the 22nd at Estadio San Mamés in Bilbao, Spain.

This is an opportunity that should not be missed. Son Heung-min made his professional debut in Hamburg, Germany, in 2010, but has not lifted a trophy in the 15 years since. He has spent a decade at Tottenham but has lost in both finals.

Challenging for his first career victory, Son Heung-min referred to this title quest as "the last piece of the puzzle." Son Heung-min stated, "This time is definitely different. I've prepared for this moment for the past 10 years." Now, for Tottenham, which has fallen to 17th place in the Premier League, and for Son Heung-min, who has been trophy-less for 15 years, the only thing that can save them is the UEL trophy.

Tottenham is equally desperate for a trophy. They have gone 17 years without one since winning the League Cup in the 2007-2008 season. Tottenham emphasized, "Manchester United is a familiar opponent in the Europa League final. We have beaten them three times this season, but this fourth and final encounter, competing for European glory, carries the greatest significance."
