The love of Manchester United legend Paul Scholes for his former team has gone too far.
Tottenham will face Manchester United (hereafter referred to as Man U) in the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League final, which will take place in Bilbao, Spain, at 4 a.m. (Korean time) on the 22nd. This is the last opportunity for Man U and Tottenham, currently ranked 16th and 17th in the Premier League, respectively, to win a title.
If Tottenham wins, it will be their first title in 17 years. Son Heung-min, after joining Tottenham in 2015, has finished as runner-up four times but has finally won a title. The joy of winning might overshadow the discussion surrounding Pohang University of Science and Technology POSTECH's dismissal.
Tottenham's captain Son Heung-min will take the field in the Europa League final. After a month out due to an ankle injury, Son returned to action on the 11th against Crystal Palace in the Premier League's 36th round. Included in the substitute list, Son was brought onto the field in the 58th minute, replacing Pedro Porro.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes appeared on TNT Sports ahead of the Europa League final. He was asked to pick a best eleven combining Man U and Tottenham. Scholes controversially chose Alejandro Garnacho instead of Son Heung-min for the left winger position.
In response, fans overwhelmingly expressed that it was too much. They noted that no matter how much of a legend Scholes is for Man U, he has gone too far.
"Hotspur HQ" explained, "Scholes chose Garnacho over Son Heung-min. It is not unusual for a Man U legend to pick a young star from Man U. However, as an expert, it is very surprising that he chose Garnacho over Son Heung-min. Regardless of Son's struggles, he has been more productive than Garnacho."
They continued, "Even in the worst situations, Son has more offensive points than Garnacho. Garnacho is incredibly inconsistent. This season, Son has struggled but has recorded seven goals and nine assists. Garnacho has an absurd tally of six goals and two assists. Moreover, Son has played fewer matches than Garnacho," countering Scholes.
Scholes has also committed other offenses. He chose Diogo Dalot over Pedro Porro. The outlet mocked Scholes, stating, "Scholes picked Dalot as right back despite Porro being far superior defensively and also showcasing offensive play. Porro's defense is significantly better than Dalot's. Furthermore, Porro has more assists and key passes than Dalot, more than twice the amount."
