Rodrigo Bentancur (28, Tottenham) will face disciplinary action.
Uruguay lost 0-1 to Colombia in the Copa America semifinals held in Charlotte, United States, in July last year.
There was a fierce atmosphere as one Colombian player was sent off, and players from both teams engaged in multiple scuffles. Uruguay striker Darwin Núñez exchanged words with Colombian fans on the ground in front of the press box after the final whistle. Unable to contain his anger, he climbed into the stands and was struck in the head by a fan. Núñez was assaulted.
The scene became chaotic, with even a media official from the Uruguay national team being assaulted by a Colombian fan while trying to break up the fight.
On the 14th, the South American Football Confederation announced, “Bentancur, who was involved in the brawl, will be banned for four matches.” Bentancur will not be able to participate in the next four matches organized by the South American Football Confederation.
Bentancur was disciplined for racism against Son Heung-min. He received a seven-match suspension from the Football Association of England for making racist remarks against his teammate Son Heung-min in December last year. Along with injuries, Bentancur was unable to play for a while.
Bentancur, who returned to Tottenham, is set to participate in the Europa League final on the 22nd.
