The Lotte Giants of Korea's professional baseball have waived foreign pitcher Barnes. It is a dismissal, not a rehabilitation situation. Lotte appears set to bring in a new foreign pitcher soon.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced Barnes' waiver on the 13th.
Barnes was excluded from the first team entry after complaining of discomfort in the back of his left shoulder following his appearance against NC on the 4th (5⅓ innings, 5 runs allowed). He received a diagnosis of scapular damage and was advised to undergo 8 weeks of rehabilitation after cross-checking results at the club's designated hospital and a hospital in Seoul.
The first half is completely out. Even if he returns from injury, it is questionable whether he can regain his normal form.
Since the start of this season, his ability has noticeably declined. He has made 8 appearances, posting a record of 3 wins, 4 losses, and an earned run average of 5.32. He had continuously complained of shoulder fatigue and ultimately sustained an injury.
Lotte, which decided to release Barnes, is in consolidation with left-handed pitcher Alex Gamboa from the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A.
Gamboa was signed by the Dodgers after being selected 281st overall in the 9th round of the 2019 draft. Last year, Gamboa made 22 appearances in Triple-A (12 starts), recording 3 wins, 6 losses, 1 hold, and an earn run average of 3.30. This year, he has made 8 appearances in Triple-A (2 starts), with 2 losses and an earned run average of 4.19.
