"Contributed to victory with excellent defense."
The Kia Tigers broke a two-game losing streak, winning 4-1 against the Lotte Giants in the 2025 professional baseball game held at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on the 13th.
The pitchers performed well overall. Starter Kim Do-hyun recorded a solid performance, allowing one run over 5⅓ innings, securing his second win. In the sixth inning, with one out and bases loaded, Jeon Sang-hyun came in relief and managed to secure four outs, turning the tide of the game.
Lee Jun-young handled a one-point out, and closer Jeong Hae-young followed by keeping the ninth inning scoreless. The team faced a two-out, bases loaded, tie situation, but Byun Woo-hyuk's defense shone as he dove to block Reyes’ line drive double, tossing it to first for the out.
If it had gotten past, every runner would have scored, tying the game. One fantastic play saved everyone. The team broke its two-game losing streak, Kim Do-hyun earned his second win, and Jeong Hae-young set a record as the youngest player to achieve 10 saves in five consecutive years.
At the plate, Kim Do-young shone. In the fifth inning, with the score 0-0 and two outs with runners on first and second, he hit a double that sliced between left and center, gaining the lead. Choi Hyung-woo quickly responded with a timely hit, showcasing his clutch abilities.
Manager Lee Beom-ho noted, "Kim Do-hyun pitched perfectly until the fifth inning without being outmatched by foreign pitchers. Jeon Sang-hyun and Lee Jun-young handled the crises well, and Jo Sang-woo and Jeong Hae-young protected the team’s victory with great pitching. Congratulations to Jeong Hae-young for achieving the youngest 10 saves in five consecutive years."
Additionally, he expressed gratitude, saying, "In the offense, Kim Do-young changed the flow of a somewhat frustrating game by generating a big hit after two outs in the fifth inning, and Choi Hyung-woo’s additional timely hit also came at a crucial moment. The excellent defense from Byun Woo-hyuk that resulted in the final out with Jung Hae-won in the second inning also contributed greatly to the team’s victory."
Despite it being a weekday, over 16,000 fans turned out. The manager promised, "We will do our best tomorrow. I also thank the fans for staying with us until the end." The starting pitchers for the 14th game are Kia's Yun Young-cheol and Lotte's Han Hyun-hee.
