After less than a year since joining Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim (40) has indicated that he might leave.

The Manchester United led by Amorim lost 0-2 to West Ham United in the 36th round home game of the 2024-2025 English Premier League (EPL) held at Old Trafford on the 11th (Korean time).

With this, Manchester United, which recorded 17 losses (10 wins and 9 draws) this season, has not won in the last 7 league games (2 draws and 5 losses) and is currently in 16th place in the league. This is the worst result reminiscent of relegation. It is also the highest number of losses for the club since the 1973-1974 season when they were relegated (20 losses).

Amorim led Manchester United to the UEFA Europa League final. However, he has not yet met the expectations of his 2.5-year contract that he signed after leaving Sporting CP last November to succeed manager Erik ten Hag.

The Portuguese-born Amorim, in an interview with the British 'BBC' after the game, noted, "Everyone here needs to think seriously about various things," stating, "Right now, everyone is only thinking about the Europa League final, but the final is not the issue. There are bigger problems we need to think about."

He continued, "I am talking not only about myself but about the overall culture of the club and the team. We need to change that," and pointed out, "This is a decisive moment in the club's history."

Amorim emphasized, "We must become stronger this coming summer and have the courage to do so," adding, "If we start next season like this, we will have to give up our place to others."

In particular, Amorim emphasized, "Honestly, I am not very worried about the final," saying, "That is the smallest problem in our club. We need to change something on a deeper level."

He added, "Looking at the performance we showed at the end of this season, participating in the Premier League or the Champions League feels like 'a story from the moon' for us right now. We have to face that fact."

He went on, "The players will focus on the final. However, I’m not sure if qualifying for the Champions League is a better option now," showing a frustrated demeanor as he added, "For now, we need to think about the Chelsea match and improve on many things."

Manchester United will face Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final on the 22nd. As both Manchester United and Tottenham are effectively ruining their leagues, sitting in 16th and 17th place respectively this season, winning the Europa League is important for securing qualification for next season's Champions League.

However, manager Amorim emphasizes that it is not just about one game, but his concerns extend to the entire next season. He hinted that he could resign if Manchester United faces next season without solid reinforcement this summer.
